The only .12 HPI makes still is the 12R SS. I don't know if it is roar legal but i bet it is.

They also make a 12RXS engine for the R40, it is a rear exhaust I do not know if it will fit the RS4 3 SS. I think they are both Roar legal.

Where can I find info on their exchange policy? Does it work through hpi only? Can i do it through tower? I looked on their site, but could not find any information.

Wow, i completely forgot about the 12R XS. :opps: That engine would be the better way to go for racing if it will fit with the rear exhaust. I pretty sure that one is roar legal. It has 1.35 while the SS makes "1+" hp.

Go to the HPI web site. They have a blue search link. Clik that and then type in "Engine Exchange Program" It sould be the first link. Heres some info about it:

1600 Nitro Star 15SS $99.00

1605 Nitro Star 15 $75.00
1606 Nitro Star 15 Precut for RC10GT $75.00
1610 Nitro Star 15SC $99.00
1615 Nitro Star 15FE $55.00
1623 Nitro Star 12R SC $99.00
1626 Nitro Star 12R SS $99.00
1627 Nitro Star 12R SS (with pullstart) $99.00
1401 Nitro Star 21BB $99.00
1406 Nitro Star S-25 NEW! $99.00

No, you can't do it through tower.

I just called them too. Thanks for the info. I found something to be pretty cool. You can send in your .21bb and get an s25. I think thats a bad ass deal. I might just run my .21 bb into the dirt and get my self a new s 25 aswell. Too bad the .21r sc isnt on there. That would be a really nice big block to race with.

The 12R XS was designed with the R40 in mind, so it's ROAR legal. The 12R SS is legal too, but I'm not all that impressed with mine. It barely makes the claimed "1+ hp." The 12R XS is actually cheaper than the 12R SS. All you'd have to do is get the slide carb linkage parts for the RS4 and a rear exhaust header and pipe to make it work. HERE is a link to SunnyD's RS4 with a 12R XS if you want to take a look.

I'd probably buy a new engine if the cost to rebuild was over half the cost of a new one. Once my 12R SS burns up for good, I'm going to buy the T-15 that comes on the Evo and NMT. It's like $70 on TowerHobbies, has great acceleration and would be perfect for bashing. For $70, you can't beat it.

I'm not all that impressed with my 12R SS engine either because it has very little torque, other than that it is a decent engine. If I were going to race i would get the 12R XS but the T-15 does sound like a good engine for the price. My friend is gunna pick one up for his NMT soon.
