RC Driving Style
Well, my girlfriend knows that I'm an RC nutcase and offered to buy me a new RC for Christmas. She said up to $1000. What should I get? I already have a Kanai II, SuperMaxx T-maxx, Monster GT, Hpi R40, Savage SS, and Mini-T.

I'm thinking about either getting a Motorcycle, Boat, or Plane. Was looking at the Miss Budweiser 1/8 boat (RTR and looks really cool), and the Nuova Faor Nitro 1/5 Bike, and maybe the Traxxas Nitro-Vee Boat, or maybe a Flight Trainer Plane or Helicopter? I've never tried any of the three. What do you guys recommend I get?

Nitro boats are hard to find a place to run them. Planes are great, but take alot of time. Helicopters are also good, but 10x the cost. If you are just going to fool around with them, go electric. If you are going to get serious, so nitro and find a place to run any of them before you buy.o

I think I am buying an electric small heli for the winter. Indoor fun, and not too much cost or hassle of going to a field all the time.

My father in law has several nitro helis and getting ready to add a turbine heli and he has been doing this for years. He says if your going to buy a heli start out cheap, something like RAMTech-RC said. The parts for helis are very expensive and the 1000 bones that she said she would spend just wont cover it. Sounds like you got a great arsenal od RCs. The nitro motorcycle is pretty awesome but kinda pricy to. Maybe take some of the money and hop up some of your other rides if they aint already and take the rest and try a 1/8 scale buggy. I myself seen the 1/10 miss budweiser and was thinking about getting it, but there aint no spot for me to go. Anyway I am sure you will make a great chose. Good luck. Does your old lady have a sister that likes to spend money to.

If I had all those RC's I'd go with the Miss Bud. That boat is awesome!!

The gas (not nitro) boats are pretty easy to just gas and go and that Miss Bud is very cool,

I'm a little bias though, I've flown planes since I was a 14, over 27 years now, only been racing rc cars for 2 years.

I'd say get a plane if you think you have the time to learn how to fly. I'ts a great hobby and it's not that hard to learn to fly.

The Helis take a lot more time to learn how to fly, I mean Alot!! more time before you get good. I recently had a heli and gave it up becuse I didn't have the time to practice.

So it kinna depends on how much time you're willing to invest in a new hobby.

Merry Xmas to you, She's a keeper

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions and opinions guys! (That's why I love this board!!!) I will try to get the the 1/8 scale Miss Budweiser Boat. :) I do have access to a huge park with a large pond/lake a few blocks away from my house. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Miss Bud is badass . i see it in my hobby shop all the time. it doesn't seem like it is to expensive, especially for an RTR. if i had the space or money i would def. get one what are you gonna do when the boat runs out of gas in the middle of the lake ? you should get an electric "tug" boat to go bring it back .

An Electric Tug Boat? What do they look like? How do other people retrieve their boat if it runs out of gas or stalls?

I don't think I can swim out there in the pond because it's kind of dirty.

Youhave to put a little ball on the front of the boat. Tehn, get a fishing rod with sinkers on the hook. Cast the line over the boat, and reel in until you hook the ball on the front of the boat. It works well. Not that I've gotten stuck more than 5 or 6 times. ALways trying to wring out a little more out of the electrics.

Some of the bigger gas boats have an auxiliarry electric motor for emergencies like that.

that is actually a novel idea... i was thinking maybe for the miss bud you could just hook it by that big wing on the back and not have to use the ball ... but the ball is a good idea. it would just suck to need like a row boat or some swimmies and a pair of flippers to get your boat all the time

Sounds kinda cool, do you guys know where I can see pics of how this is done? I don't really know too much about fishing and what I would need in order to make this happen. Very interesting though.

The fishing idea goes like this.

On the tip of the bow, drill a hole. Mount a ball end or something that sticks up a bit. SOmething that looks like a trailer tow ball works best. It has to be on the bow, since the boat has to be pulled through the water. If you put it on the back, it will swamp the boat.

For the fishing pole, just get a kids pole from Wal-Mart. SpongeBob ones work the best. I used a 3 pronged hook, and ground off the sharp point. Kind of like a grappling hook now. Put a few weights and a small bobber on the end.

You have to practice casting to get good distance and accuracy. Cast over the boat, and reel in away from the bow. THat will hook the grappling hook onto the ball, and reel-in slowly. It works great. Never had to get wet.

I didn't realize the boat was that big!!

Isn't that just the COOLEST looking boat you've ever seen? I mean, that boat is 1:8 scale and it runs on a reliable lawn mower engine and uses regular pump gas mixed with oil (very convenient as I have a Go-Ped GSR40 TSI Scooter that uses a similar setup).

The Miss Budweiser Boat comes complete RTR out of the box and it goes 35mph!

Just out of curiosity, what is your girlfriends name and #? I can't beleive nobody has said anything about this guy's girlfriend and the $1000 she's giving him!!!

Actually, my wife bought me my first one (xxx-nt). Well we were walking through a mall and i saw a hobby town display case and started whining about not having a motercycle like when i was a kid... oh well, this is allot of fun to.

She allowed me to buy a t-maxx 6 months later when i realized 2 wheel drive just doesn't cut it in the thick lawn and snow.

I thought that from the start, Damn you have an awesome girl. She isn't buying it with your credit card though is she :p:

you got to go with the motor cycle that thing is sweeeeeet!!!
if i had as much luck as you id totall go with the bike....the boats cool too..:whhooo:

Yeah, she really is an awesome gf. The cool thing is that she really understands little quirks about me and although she doesn't really like RC too much, she's happy that I really love RC and happy that I enjoy it and wants me to enjoy it. :)

I'm drooling over the Miss Budweiser boat. I found it on ebay for cheap.

HOLY COW! That's cheap? How much does the Miss Budweiser boat normally go for? For that price the girl in the pic better come with the boat. LOL
