My wife's b-day is in a couple weeks... er... a week. I bought her a vacuum, but gave it to her a month ago. It's a robot vac, it's name is now Jarvis and she controls it with her phone.

It's funny when I think about it... when I met my wife 19 yrs ago, she was not a "tech" type person. Back then, the old flip phone was a big deal and she didn't even have that. When we got married 17 yrs ago, our first "married" purchase was a 60" big screen that she said we didn't "need"... Then we upgraded the sound... 15yrs later, she now has a smartphone, android tablet, laptop that she carries all over the house to video chat with her now out of state mom on, complete entertainment systems in both the bedroom and living room, bluetooth headphones connected to both and now a robot vacuum. Whenever we go to other peoples houses and see/hear their system, as we leave she will mutter something to me like "they call that surround? amateurs...". I think I created a monster!

Good for you! After doing pro audio professionally for as long as I did, I find it PAINFUL to go see small live shows in bars etc... Even in the big areas and sometimes going to someone's house to see their bose surround and hear them almost bragging about it gets a little annoying too... Its like once you are 'in the know', you have become a snob by no real fault of your own. But knowing what a sound system is supposed to do, what quality gear REALLY is etc... Its kind of like knowing what good wine is etc... Its nice to be able to experience the finer things if you get the chance. Its actually nice to hear she has been exposed and is able to appreciate it!

Yeah, ours isn't top of the line by any means. The speakers are at least 15 yrs old, bought the full set off a guy a few years ago from craigslist, polk rt##i series. I had old/smaller JBL's for everything. I bought the polk's because I didn't want to pay retail on the current Rti A# speakers. Living in an apartment limit's what I will have since I don't want to be "the annoying neighbor". Otherwise, I'd have some floor standing speakers. As it is, it sounds really good. The receiver is a late model yamaha. Had to get one that would allow for dialog tweaking because my wife is slowing becoming hard of hearing. For the bedroom, I have a yamaha sound projector, YSP-1000. Old non-HDMI model, but the surround sound it creates is just ridiculously accurate. I won that off ebay for $135 shipped 4+ yrs ago... I expected it to show up dead. It wasn't. Also, using harmony one remotes (one for her, one for me in both living room and bedroom) really make it easy for her to use everything. Expensive remotes... but totally worth the aggrivation they help you avoid with a multi-component system.

Yamaha makes some KILLER amps! In the right units, power is clean and crisp. Some of their older units have been my favorite home audio components. I am not super familiar with polk's speakers in general however, some years ago I purchased a pair of tweeters for a car audio system and they were by far the sweetest sounding tweeters I have ever owned. Unfortunately, they are no longer with me... The sun eventually got the better of them but I ran them for about 10 years which is pretty damned good! If they sound anything like those did, your system is VERY nice!!! In a lot of cases, I prefer the older gear for its sound quality. The digital stuff just doesn't seem to have to warm 'soul' of the audio I love. To each their own. I totally get what you're saying about the neighbor issue too. Having a killer system that you can't use is torture!

I love the older stuff too!...:D

I sure do miss my pioneer home receiver & homemade 4 way speakers ,they each had 12 ,10 ,4 an horn tweeter with all cross overs.
The 12's & horns came out of an old 60's or 70's radio/turntable console!...They have a unique sound!
You can here my system from 2 blocks away ,AC/DC & Van Halen really sounded good on it!....:D

Yah, the weather here has really dropped the hammer on us! We got the high side of expected snow fall at about 7" Of snow last night followed by a nice crust of ice to top it off making the snow heavy and a pain in the arse to shovel. Tomorrow, blizzard conditions expected. Then Friday and sat, more snow expected. Yay!:confused::bored:

We are just dealing with a little rain ,nothing compared to what some of the eastern states have to deal with ,although ,
we been dealing with drought situations ,fires ,an then when it does rain a lot ,its mud slides!...

It was almost 70 degrees here in the mountains today. A one hour mountain bike ride was my lunch break. I love it when the weather is drunk. :D

It reached 50°s today between snowstorms! Lol! The weather is a mess! But hey, this is normal for February!
