I am seriously considering getting into racing and believe I want to buy 1/8 buggy, maybe even a truggy. I am uncertain if I want to go nitro or electric though. I currently have 3 nitro and wanted to get into an electric to switch it up. I am wanting to keep it under a grand and curious to see what I get for opinions on this.

No actually an older ultra lx,and the newer models are even better

If you have a grand to work with and you want to go electric then I would look at either a Mugen MBX6E or even the MBX7 if they have an electric version out yet, a Losi 8ight-E, or an Associated RC8.2E. Id buy Tekin RX8 with a 1900kv Tekin motor and Id run it on 4S lipo.

Theres a lot more available in terms of electric racing with buggies rather than truggies. If you get a Truggy Id make sure they race electric truggies in your area and you'll need to buy a conversion kit cuz no one really makes an electric 1/8 truggy that I'm aware of. at least none of the high quality racing companies.

that will definitely put me over a grand, just putting the rc82e, tekin combo and 4s lipo. have not even factored in a charger and radio.:whhooo:

lol, ya I had to come back to reality on that one. I have some research to do and a couple of months to do it in. This was my starting point

The Ultra LX2 is not a race buggy, its a basher.

Mugen MBX6E is $470
Tekin 1900KV Combo is $330
Futaba 3PL is $115 (You may end up wanting to get something better down the line but its a good place to start)
If you're gonna race you will need a couple of 4S packs Look at Turnigy Nano Tech lipos to start off with. You can get those for around $58/ea. + S&H
You can pick up a decent 200W charger from HobbyKing the you can again start out with for $40-60 bucks. So yeah you might need 1100-1200 up front but youd have a top notch racer and you can upgrade lipos, radio equipment, and charger as needed later on down the line.

If you just can't save up another 100-200 bucks then look at the HotBodies VE8. I think you can pick that kit up for about $150 bucks less than the Mugen. Its not as good as the Mugen but its a decent racer.

Is this a good charger? its a little more than the price you put out there.

I am unable to find the lipos that you are referring to, I checked a few places. .......never mind found them at hobby king

Id recommend this charger to start with so you dont have to buy a seperate power supply.
