Hi guys i'm new and just got my o.s. .15 cv-rx engine in today for my rusty. Well my question is the os has a round silver thing with grooves and a nut on the shaft that came with it..so how does the thing with the 2 prongs that goes into the clutch shoes go? does it just but up against that thing? the trx had a kinda cone shaped object that the thing with the 2 prongs slide snug on. Sorry for using a lot of "Things" and "Objects" not to familiar with names...i thought i'd ask ya'lls guidance before screwing up something! any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

well the "silver thing" and the "nut" is used just in case u want to cut the shaft shorter for ur car. I think ur gona have to cut the shaft, because the rustler uses a short shaft, well all TRAXXAS vehicals use a short crankshaft engine. Did u get the OS .15 CV-RX(S)? S meaning short. or the OS .15 CV-RX? U have to take the Cone off ur old TRX and put it on the OS. BUt first we have to find out if u have to cut the shaft or not. FYI the cone goes on the shaft, then u put the flywheel on, then using the clutch nut(the nut with the shaft on it), u tighten that onto the flywheel. then once its tight, u can put the clutch shoes on the flywheel, then the clutch bell iwth the bearings.. then the E-Clip.

this engine with the regular length crankshaft http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXXA44&P=ML
OR

I'm thinkin u got the OS with the normal length shaft which u are gona have to cut.

Yes maxx trooper i got the wrong one it seems....but if i cut it it will still work out?? The manual says cv-r and on the side of the engine it says cv-r but the white round sticker says cv-rx?? i dunno...i campared the shaft to the trx and the os is longer

Jerry I might be wrong but it sounds like you are talking about prop nut and prop collet, just remove this since its going on a car and install the flywheel collet(brass cone piece) and flywheel(piece with 2 prongs for clutch).

Without knowing the car or which engine shaft youve got there is no way to tell, just remove those pieces install the collet, flywheel, clutch and clutchbell. If it dont work like that in your car you will have to cut it.

alright thanks a lot for all the info guys now i will go get my hands dirty except the one with the fingers crossed! lol laterz

u will not be able to install the flywheel and clutch pieces with the longer shaft. the TRX flywheel and clutch setup requires u to have the short shaft. what u have to do is with the "silver thing" and the nut off the crank shaft, find a plastic bag, put the engine in the bag, poke the shaft out of the bag. put the "silver thing" and the nut on the shaft. yadda yadda yadda. here is a link where a experienced R/Cer put a Fantom in the nitro rustler, basicly the same as the OS, just follow the cutting steps. http://forum.rdracingproducts.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=395&KW=Fantom

He says its a nitro rustler. also he compared the shafts of the old TRX and the OS and the OS shaft is longer then the TRX. so he will have to cut the shaft.

MaxxTrooper is right on the money.

I put an OS 15 cv-r(x) on my 2.5 maxx. I had the standard shaft on the OS and had to cut it. Then I used traxxas clutch adapter shaft on it to mount the cb on.

By the way, the (x) means pull start.

well it's now 11:36pm here and i'm still not finished intalling the engine and i have been at it all day except for like 2 hours considering i started at 12noon It turns out the long shaft was the LEAST of my worries...geez what a job. Turns out even though it was a .15 also nothing worked out. i had to do mass grinding on a lot of the engine mounts. not to mention countless little things. the engine is small but it has a giant pull start base..and after i finished the grinding and installed the engine the pull start was locked so i took out the glow plug to release some of the compression and it still was locked...thats when i noticed the flywheel was locked under the transmission bar that crosses over and connects to the upper chassis it wouldnt allow the engine to slide and the big black gear was crooked somehow as it met up with the clutch bell. so i grinded down the bar to allow room for the flywheel and allow the engine to slide freely...the grinding wasn't enough i found so i will have to keep trying again tomorrow hopefully everything will work out when i free the flywheel. dang this engine better be worth it. i've never had a new engine before....back to work tomorrow thanks guys for all the info maybe tomorrow i will be the bearer of GOOD NEWS!!

hey jerry welocme and hope these guy can help! you can always come here for tons of help!!!

*welcome*

Yup maxx trooper i saw that link AFTER i had got back from working on it all day it would have at least warned me on the timely process. and that is exactly what i had to do. the good news is i finally got it in and set perfect...as we speak the timely breaking in process is taking place. its cooling down right now i'm letting it run for a minute or 2 then taking the plug out and making sure the piston is at the bottum.
