Okay so I'm super excited to get my new nitro rc truck. alot of my friends who have them do not break them in they just take off with em at full speed. i just moved out and i dont have much money so using all those tanks seems like wasting fuel. my buds say that you dont have to do anything to break nitro rc in bud i have read otherwise please help! i want to drive it right when i get it! but i dont want it to drain my wallet

Your buddies are trying to cost you a new engine. My very first nitro a long time ago I didn't break it in and it blew up within 6 tanks. I learned the hard way. You must heat cycle the engine for atleast the first 3-4 tanks after that with hold from full throttle till atleast tank 7-8 then you should be good. I wouldn't do more than 1/4 throttle for 2 sec then stop till tank 3-4 then 1/2 throttle for three sec and for the next 3-4 tanks. Make sure for the first 3-4 tanks your temp gets up to 200-210 then let it cool for 15 min in between each tank and place your piston at BDC (bottom dead center) while the engine is cooling this will give you a very tight pinch which makes for great compression and a long life out of your engine. Read the heat cycling thread and it will give you more info if needed.

FOLLOW THE MANUFACTURERS BREAK IN PROCEDURE!!!!!! This is a crucial process to get the maximum performance and life out of you Nitro engine!!! Your buds are idoits for telling you that! The old saying an ounce of prevention saves a pound of pain truely applies here.

I've always followed the manufacturers break in procedures for all of my engines and I have 6 engines. My best advice is to follow the manufacturers procedure and invest in a temp gun. The temp gun gives you almost a perfect temperature of your engine and will let you know if you're getting too hot. Look at break in as a test period of how to drive your new vehicle. If you're concerned of wasting money running that fuel for 5 plus tanks, look at it this way: theres over 3000 cc of fuel in a gallon. Most tanks are around 125 to 150 cc in volume on a truck. It would cost you theoretically 750cc of fuel for break in which is under a quarter of a gallon. So if fuel costs 30 bucks a gallon, then break in would cost 7.50. Theres nothing cheap about our hobby but if done right, the enjoyment outweighs the cost anyday.:D

well, u got ur answer there, its not wasting fuel for breaking in, its an invest.
