Hi, I 1800mAh Ni-Cd battery in my electric buggy, the first few charges I charged with the mains adapter supplied for 10 hours each time. This lasts for about 15 minutes running time. How long should I be charging the battery until it is fully charged as the actual battery doesn't seem to get that warm? I ask this because my son doesn't really want to wait 10 hours until he can use it again. Is the answer simply to get a 3000mAH NiMH, or have 2 batteries to swop once one is empty.

Thanks in advance

steve

It depends on the charger. If you have a slow trickle charger it will take a long time to charge batteries and getting a larger battery will take even longer. I would suggest getting a better charger. I have a Dynamite charger that adjust from 1amp to 4amps and it only takes 2-4 hrs to charge a 8.4v 4500mah battery on low. Getting a larger mah battery will give you a longer run time.

It's always a good idea to have 2 or more batteries if you want to run non-stop for awhile. Run one, let it cool while you run the second then toss the first one on the charger while you run a 3rd and then just rotate them around ;-) If you have a good charger you can run for a LOOONG time this way. LIPO batteries only make this easier since you can charge them as many times as you want in a day and NiCd/NiMH are good for what 3-4 charges the same day or something like that? Or so they recommend...

I use an Integy charger for my NimH batteries and I can charge from 1 to like 6 amps. At 6 amps, I can finish a 5000 maH battery in around 1 hour. If you have the money, go Lipo. You won't regret it. The runs times are insane, and in the future once you get 2 Lipos you can literally run all day without stopping like Motogod mentioned.

That's a great help thanks very much!

Thanks for your help I appreciate it!

If you do decide to go LiPo make sure you get a quality charger that is designed to charge lipo batteries, lipo is the way to go for sure. and always make sure you let your batteries cool completely before recharging them for better battery life.

I'm surprised you are getting a full 15 min out of a 1800mah battery...... deff upgrade your battery and your charger for much much shorter chargetime, and much longer runtime.

Hi Again, I have a new query in relation to my new 1/10 scale nitro monster truck. I can't seem to get a connection to my servo, the radio and servo is on, but I can't move the wheels at all, as if there is no life there! I managed in the end to get the engine fired up but it free wheels and then cuts out even when adjusting the trim.

Can anyone suggest anything.
Thanks steve
