i've got a few questions about the cv-r engines. first, are they side exhaust or rear exhaust? my truck right now is set up for rear exuahst and I'm not sure what i would need to do to change to side if those are side exhaust.
also, is a slide valve bad for off-road? the slide carb cv-r's seem to be cheaper than the rotary. right now i have a rotary on my xxx-nt and i have no idea how to change to slide if i get one. i dont know if it would be worth it. are they harder to tune?

well if anyone can answer these questions please let me know. thanks.

Cv-R engines are side exhaust.

On my RC10GT i run a rotary carb. It is my understanding that rotary carbs are recommended for off-road's because of it superior acceleration in the mid range, while slide carbs are better for quick acceleration applications.

If you decide to switch to a slide carb you will have to get the slide carb linkages for your acceleration servo.

If I were you, I'd stick to the rotary carb for your Losi...Just my .02 cents worth.

Personally, I would stick with the rotary also. My personal preference.

I have a slide on one of my Maxxes, and my xxx-nt. I prefer the slide over the rotary, and my os slide tunes as easily and holds a tune as well my OS rotary in my other T.

In order to change to a slide carb, you will need to redo the throttle linkage on the losi. And to go from rear to side exhast you will need a different header.

Look in to the OS .12 tr, it is a rear exhast engine that puts out about 1.3 hp, then you would not have to worry about the header and pipe. It comes with either a rotory or slide carb for whatever your preference is. This is the engine I plan to put in my xxx-nt.

I run the os cv-rx 15 on my xxxnt and i love it. I've run probably about 6 gallons through. Hell i burned 2 gallons in a weeks worth of vacation in july, it was 95degrees f and had it tuned to stay around 240. I ran it for 8 hours strait without shutting down... that was a fun day.

Considering i had the RTR, it was a direct drop-in. Wish i could help you more, but just wanted to let you know the stability of the engine.

I run the rotary on my xxx-nt. On my max i have os's 21 rg-x(p) with a slide carb. It's just as stable tuning as the rotary. I don't think you can go wrong either way.

8 hours striaght :OMG: Now i now i dont have to worry about my cv-rx in my nephew maxx

Again, from my experiance, the O.S. 15 cv-rx doesn't have enough power for the maxx. I bought one for it before i went to the 21. I was constantly overheating > 250. I don't like running past 250 and i was always hitting 270-280.

It's a good engine, just not enough power for all that weight.

sry but that engine sucks i would go with a RB concepts engine if i was you.

ummm not really the os .15 for $134 u can get a RB concept X12 with pull start for $180 and it will be 100000000000000000 times better than that os crap.... :stupid: I've had 3 os .15 engines before and there nothing like the RB concept engines.

Regardless of what you've had, i don't think i 15 or smaller is a good engine for the maxx. Unless you drop a racing 15 in it, then your still talking money.

Besides, a million other people who have the os 15 cv-rx can't all be wrong. I think it just depends on the application.

Aren't the RB engines bump start only? This would require him to spend another $100 on a starter box.

Sorry about vearing off into maxx territory. I had 3 other conversations open and was in the maxx mindset. I have the xxx-nt as well, but since i've gotten the maxx, it rarely sees daylight.
