I know it is difficult to identify a glow plug just by looking at it. But I have a glow plug that came with a little red protective sleeve over the threads. I have never seen that before. I did a quick search and only found O'donnell plugs with a black protective sleeve. Does any other mfg's/suppliers use this sleeve? Does red vs. black mean anything? Could an experienced hobby shop person ID the plug temp range and mfg by looking at it?

Thanks in advance for the info...

These all use the red cap: Dynamite does, Odonnel does, McCoy does on their MC-8's. Traxxas does on their stock plugs.

Really? That's interesting. None of the Dynamite or Traxxas plugs at my LHS have the caps on them. Does the cap color have any signifigance?

Not that I know of. Actually now that you mention it, not all of the Traxxas plugs have the red cap, only some of them for some reason. I don't know why, but some came with red caps and some didn't. Kinda odd huh. I actually don't know why any of the plugs have caps on them at all. They're sealed in plastic bags, so nothing is going to get in there. Maybe it's just a gimmick to stand out a little bit and look different.

Actually, I like the caps because when I have different plugs in my box, I can keep them protected.

that cap on them is to protect them from factory.they come in bags of 12 pretty sure then they are devided up at the resalers.into 2 packs or singles...my 2 cents...zandor
