I have been making preparations to buy an ARRMA Outcast 4S this summer. I've got a charger and will order batteries when I get the car. I also have a LiPo bag (don't want the house to burn down!). I'm thinking that the best way to transport the car and all my other supplies for it and any emergency repairs would be a rolling toolbox that I have. However, it's not padded. Is there some kind of foam insert I can get that I can arrange or shape to suit my needs?

I bet you'll get a ton of different answers.

When I raced I used large Rubbermaid type containers, one in particular from Plano had latching sides, wheels and could hold two 1/10th end to end.
I currently just toss my cars in the truck or I'll use a large open soft bag with a wire frame, it holds one, 1/10th vehicle.

What about some bulk foam from somewhere?
Toolbox padding? Dividers?

You're already on the right track with the lipo bag. I typically just place my lipos in there while traveling. If I can, I have it in a separate area.

Trunk, truck bed/bed covered, that sorta thing.

Perhaps the safest thing would be a lipo storage box that has anti explosive properties to it which I think is going to be my next charging setup/transport investment.

I guess I didn't think about protecting my LiPos, but I meant for keeping my car safe in the toolbox. I don't want it bouncing around or getting hit by tools, or tools breaking because of it.

An example of how not to transport your gear. The up side is when my car burns down I'll be able to collect on the insurance.
I'm quick to get rid of iffy batteries so I'm not too worried.

I think the real problem is when people don't know when it's time to dispose of a battery and keep running it. A battery that's in good shape and is properly cared for is pretty safe.

Lipo bags are for show. They may be required for race tracks but an ammo box and some welding gloves will allow you time and a semi safe way to carry your exploding battery OUTSIDE!!!
Lipo bags don't hold up well in real life tests.

Battery safe is prob the safest option but is the most $ too.

Oh, good point. I have an ammo box, but it stores my green army men. I guess they're getting evicted lol.

I'm not using this one any more for obvious reasons. I can smush the outer case visibly with my fingers.View attachment 271111View attachment 271112

They are never perfectly flat. It's normal for the ends to to taper off. If the middle is flat it's probably fine.

The are not eggs and get a lot of impact when we play. when I travel with them I just keep the away from sharp things.

Nah, it's definitely inflated. If I put the puffy side down and drop it it will bounce like rubber.

I'm not sure how the size of yours compares to an 1/8 scale buggy, but I think whoever designed the "Qbrick" toolboxes was a racer, because they fit perfectly (won't fit a Truggy). I took some pics before I loaded up yesterday, and all five boxes will fit stacked on the backseat of my Focus. Two boxes for buggies, short box for tools, medium box with T-bolt rails on lid for parts, large box with lid for Nitro stuff. I attached a plexi-glass plate to the rails on the top of the parts box to use as a table.

That's a nice setup. I have to check out Qbricks. I reorganized mine to fit (mostly) in an InstaCrate.

Right now traveling light and it's just play time. I love the T-track idea.

Forgot to say you look very familiar. Ever done any work in Burbank?

I'm always on the lookout for rolling toolboxes. Which one do you have?
