As the title says, I picked up a used DHK Hunter slider for yet another project (like I really need more lol) dirt cheap. It's complete, and everything is in really good shape, but, I came across something I never have before, or really even heard anyone talking about. Why would someone remove the center diff gears and put in a diff lock? I have heard of locking the front or rear diff, and one way bearings, and why, but, what advantage would a locked center diff give, especially bashing on dirt, grass, and other loose surfaces? In the second pic, which I admit isn't that great, the center plastic piece is the diff lock. Luckily there are still a few places that parts are available.

Center spool/locked diff/no diff simply just gives equal power to front/rear drivelines. Wheelies, drifting, crawling, running on high traction surfaces are the only areas where I see beneficial for locking a center diff. Some platforms don't come with a center slipper/diff (touring cars come to mind).

I don't know why they did it, but I threw a Axial ESC and Arrma 9T motor I had laying around in it, just to see how it drives, and, it sucks. Even brushed, it just spins out, so I ordered the complete unlocked center diff for it. I was just gonna get the parts to put it back to geared, until I found out that a shop I have dealt with many times is going out of business, which sucks, but, he had the complete diff for less than $20, so, I bought the last 2 he had.

What type of surface were you driving on that had the Hunter just spin out?

Since your RC was bought used, I'd recommend going through the entire driveline checking for worn parts. At the same time, opening up the diffs/shocks so you can dump/fill with proper stock fluids/oils thicknesses.

Monkey Hobby and RC Hobby Explosion were the places to go for DHK parts.

I was running in the street, and the yard. The first thing I did when I got it was strip it, redo the shocks, replace bearings, the usual. It's what I do to every used truck I buy (and, most of what I buy is used). Rc hobby explosion is where I ordered the center diff from. Unfortunately, they are going out of business soon, which sucks. I've done a LOT of business with them. At one point, I had all but one DHK car, the Cage-R. I don't know if I trust Monkey Hobby. I have heard bad things about them.

And what diff fluids did you put in the Hunter?
