So I'm new to all of this. to make it short and sweet. i bought a truck and a car on craigs. both engines = 0 compression. bought new hpi engine for the truggy. was breaking it in the "old school" from the manual. throttling on the box front tires started to spin but not the back ones. only when close to full throttle back ones started spinning. so i said whatever and kept on. placed it on the ground with a fresh tank. started. gave it some gas and i went no where. went to full throttle and moved about a inch a minute. decided to kill it and find some help. so my concern is when i bought the new engine and put the old engine clutch assebmly on the new engine. i didnt take in account what direction the shoes were going. if they are going backwards could this be caused by reversed clutch shoes?

Not likely but you'll need to open it up and make sure they are in there right. You are probably dealing with a broken pin in one of the drive shafts from the trans. You need to rotate the trans by hand while holding the wheels still and see where one shaft is not turning the next. If it all looks good it could be inside the trans.
That would cover one end not turning. As for both ends not turning it could also be the slipper clutch not being tight enough.

from what i can tell it all looks good. i roll the truck on the ground and everything spins fine. holding the truck on the ground and spinning the trans (biggest gear in the middle of both drive shafts to clarify?) i can't spin it and the truck wants to roll. i probably didnt understand what you said so if i didnt you will have to dumb it down. i like to think I'm familiar with the parts but only have owned my truck for 4 months and spending less than a hour a month up until now on it i could have no clue. Thanks for the help though. I'm assuming its inside the trans? which would be what both the driveshafts from the front and rear are going into.

edit: I'm going to empty the tank and everything then pull off the engine and double check the shoes. probably post some pics as well.

edit2: left all my tools at work so wont be able to do anything major until i get home tomorrow. one question. i just got done breaking in the motor and was almost done. is there any precautions i should take with letting the truck sit for a day? besides getting bdc on the piston is there anything else necessary when putting the truck on the shelf for a day?

Not a problem to park it for a day, even with fuel in the tank as long as it's at BDC.
With the engine out you should check the drive train again. Turn the spur gear and let the front bumper push against a step or something. If there's a problem in there you will be able to turn the spur. If it's all good, you won't be able to turn it because all 4 tires will want to turn.

Got the engine off and I put the chassis on a box and raised wheels off ground free to spin. Then started spinning the transmission gear and noticed only the front drive shaft was the only one spinning moving the front tires. Then I kept spinning the transmission and held the left tire and felt no resistance to keep it moving while the right tire was moving. Let it go and it continued spinning. Tried holding the right tire with the transmission spinning and it to stopped with no force to keep going and the left continued to spin. The rear drive shaft did not spin at all. Could it be a simple fix or a new transmission? And both the driveahafts look a little bent when I spin them, is that going to really affect the truck?

Here are the pictures of my transmission.

Your transmission is better known as a center differential. It could be a simple fix or you may need to replace the spider gears or pins inside. Hold both front tires and then turn the spur if the rear wheels do not spin you have something broken in the diff. Either way you will need to take it out and disassemble it to see what is broken. Could be as simple as a drive cup pin or it could be broken gears.

so with no knowledge of these transmission i proceeded to take it off the chassis and disassebmle. furing disassembly i found nothing that striked me as broken or wrong. took it all the way apart to where i could see the 4 spider gears and noticed nothing that looked like it was stripped or anything. Dont know what to look for so i will post some pictures as to waht I'm looking at then let me know.

Anything i should be looking for.Everything spins fine and i put the spur back on real tight and started spinning and it sounbded fine and it wasn't slipping. the driveshaft wasn't spinning before i took the tranny apart so it sounds like to me this is where the problem lies. but I'm going to go ahead and check the front and rear cups.

The bevel gears (larger gears) have a slot underneath them that engages a pin that goes through the drive cup shaft. You should remove the beveled gears to have a look at the pins (you will need to remove the spiders (smaller gears and pins) to remove the bevel gear in the cup to see that pin. You should also fill the cup with some diff oil/lube 3000wt/3K at least or some axle bearing grease if you don’t have diff oil. Without oil/grease in the cup the center diff is almost useless.

So i managed to get everything apart and i can see both pins. dont really know what to look for but it all seems to look fine. bad news is i have no grease of that sort laying around. and no means of transportation to get to a hobby shop to buy some since my real truck is in the shop for a bent rear axel:/ nor do the hobby shops around here carry much nitro parts, since i was in 2 the other day looking for glow ignitors to no avail. any substitutes for grease/oil for diff?

Yea but ill definetly need something for the long term. looks like ill just order something online and get some tools while I'm there since this angled allen wrench set is to big and difficult to do anything. Any suggestions where i could get the grease/tools?

well for long term you definitely need silicone oil for your diffs. Really need to know more details on what manufacturer and model you have, and what rims and tires would be a good thing also. this way we can recommend the right weights.

out of the box it was a katan s/t. the thing was from the late nineties maybe early 2000's i believe its still the same chassis but i just bought a new motor. hpi savage x4.6 big block. the wheels are traxxas 6.5h3.5 - 3.8 with trx rims.

No. You'll want to get some silicone oil like was mentioned before from a hobby shop. If you don't have one near you there are several excellent ones online.

Front and rear meaning shocks and middle meaning differential?

Would that be each individual bevel on the front and rear then the spider gears in the middle? It all seems to be one piece to me and 3 different lubes would eventually just mix up?
