I was wondering, Can I put more fuel tubing between the handle and starter so it sticks up out of the body so I can pull it?? Are they easy to detach and attach the rope the the handle?

Yes you can and the ease of the task depends on you. I know I'd end up with the starter being thrown across the room and beg sky to fix it for me but you might have better luck.

I'm with EP on this one and I would listen to him cuz he has a new big gun. "But if it aint broke, dont fix it" I personally hate messing with pull starts. I got a box dedicated to broken pull starts. Once they are apart they just never seem to work like they used to. It got me to the point to where I got a starter box.

I just got an idea to make this easy. Just take some tape, wrap it real thick around the string (however much u need to stick up) and make it thick enough so it doesn't just go in the starter, depending on how big the hole is on your specific starter. If it comes off or something u can always re-tape, I think it would still be cheaper than fuel tubing (I don't have any spare tubing layin' around) Let me know if u see any flaws with this besides the ones I'v mentioned.

I know it's not broken but I need it to stick out of the body in case I race this up coming weekend!:winnar:

I think the tape will start to get all F*cked up and cause you problems. If you feel confident with taking your starter apart, just take it apart. But if you dont have any tubing lying around anyways, there no point now. I'm pretty sure you got a bunch of tape lying around. Give it a try. worst case is you waste some tape. try it and let us know.

Will do. BTW when u mentioned to get a starter box, I have a maxx so it's not possible.

really? That suxx. I didnt know you couldnt use a starter box on a maxx. Are there any other cars that can't use a starter box?

I think it's MT's in general that don't use starter boxes. I kow the savage can't because of the chassis. Rubber wheel won't hit anywhere close to the flywheel. Most monster trucks that have something other than pullstarts use either a rotostart method or some onboard starter, like the t-maxx's.

that really sux. just one more reason why I wouldnt buy an MT.

You can take your rubber wheel off the starter box and hook it to your cordless drill and take your drill and go from the top of your monster truck and hit the flywheel that way to start it. Nothing wrong with owning a mt, they are fun.

Yes actually I had a staduim truck before that had an engine that could only be started with the starter box and I just hated it. Everytime it quit far away I had to drag it back to the box. Here I just stick my 2 ignitors, tuning screwdiver, and temp gun in my pockets and start it from where it is. But back to the topic now. I decided my fuel line on my maxx going to the carb was way way to long, so I cut about 2 inches off. Put that on the pullstart and it works awesome. Haven't actually started the engine yet but am going to immediately after this post. It was not hard at all to get the rop off the handle. But I had to clamp the string so it wouln't zip through the hole and into the starter(would've caused another 2 hours of work) I had to be very VERY carelful with that clamp (I used a cresent wrench for the clamp:x ) But I got it all done with no dificulties and it sticks about 1/2 inch out of the body now:cheerful: Thanks for all your help everyone!

Ran it today, and the temps are still a tad high with slightly rich settings. All I kno is it only happened when I started putting the WD40 in. The temps wern't as bad as yesterday though.

Nothing wrong with using a pull start. Poor tuning usually means hard starting. I ususally get my engine started within the first 5 pulls.

Didnt mean to down talk MT's. I know this is not the right place for me to do that. I'm sure every1 here will gang bang me and infect my pc with some viruses and maybe if you ever see me driving my nitro cars, youll do something to make it crash. But I already crash it enough.

I was thinking about getting an MT just cuz its looks kinda cool how they can drive over anything, but I'm in to speed and high flying. I knoe if I get an mt, Ill just try to get the highest mph out of it and crash it hard. Or I might try to just my house with it and go through the secound floor window instead.

Pull start are cool. I have a working one for all my cars. I ofna even has the pull start on it right now. Its just that, they break too damn much and are too damn expensive. I'm sure most of you have a few busted ones lying around. I have owned a few os and hpi pull starts and they just fall apart after a while. Theres nothing more frustraiting than getting ready to bash and something like a pull start keeps your car from running. So thats why I have both now. But if I had only one, I would definitely go with my trusty starter box. Hasnt failed me once yet.

My starter box never failed me either. But I just hated the inconvienence (sp)

You can add more fuel tubing to your pullstart, but most likely the tubing will just get torn pretty quickly, making all your hard work just a pain in the buttox.

If u read the thread that's exactly wat i did. But I don't blame u, long threads can get boring fast!

It isn't tearing at all yet

Go to your local hardware/plumbing store and see if they have any polyflow tubing. It's much stiffer than fuel tubing and only costs about a dime a foot or so depending on where your at. If your not sure what I'm talking about maybe you've seen the tubing used under sinks and such that is a hard clear plastic. that would be it. Fuel tubing gets hot and becomes limp and tears easily. This stuff will last longer than your truck!

Also if you choose to use fuel tubing then add a small washer between the tubing and pullstart housing to give the tubing a flatter surface to make contact with. This will help keep it from splitting.

Another thing is add a plastic tie to the handle and let it stick up and out of the body so you can get your hands on it.

Just my thoughts....
