My buddy's family had a place accessible by a hard-packed dirt road that usually was in poor shape in the Spring. After years of repairing the road, his dad settled on dragging a set of old steel bed springs with some cinder blocks on it for weight as his most effective and easy maintenance method to smooth out the road.

Just a thought... something along those lines might be more effective than a rake-like device?

Keep the ideas coming. This is all first run stuff in prototype stages. I do think once thawed and dry this rig will produce significantly better results. I am totally willing to experiment with different drags, different trucks etc.

Along the lines of my buddy's dad's bedspring technique, I'm thinking a piece of expanded steel with some weight on it will smooth things out nicely...

I may very well try and rig up something with this next. I want something to work out in the end. With my shoulders as messed up as they are, avoiding the traditional rake is the ultimate goal.

I would honestly buy a cheap full size rake, cut it down and add some weights to it (like a cinder block), and fab up a way to hook it to a 1/10 or 1/8 rig. Again, the idea is cool as hell though.
My current actual rake is duct taped to the handle so half that work is done already...

I went back out now that it's up over 40 deg. The concept is great, and it definitely did a better job. The rake loads up and it loses some effectiveness until you clean it out. If it were drier it would probably do even better. I think the next drag will be with the expanded steel as suggested above. I don't think the vehicle is a bad choice though. Slow, high torque, 4wd....all things that work well for this.

Definitely try the expanded metal idea. Seems a rake would be too grabby and not smooth out as much as something like expanded metal with a larger surface area with some weight. 1/8th would be sweet if you have one in the fleet!

Largest I have is 1/10. The track is small, good size for my 1/18 1RC sprint car. The larger the drag/vehicle the more turning radius will be an issue

I dropped it here in the std electric rc category because it has nothing to do with crawling....we're going at full throttle!! Lol
this had me CACKLING so many times! i absolutely loved it! fav video of the week!
