I was at the track today with my Mayhem; what a PITA that buggy can be sometimes! So, my clutch-bell assembly is making a horrid noise and it makes idling the buggy a pain today. Anyway, I get home to check it out.

Turns out that one of the pins in the fly wheel was working free and it was rubbing on my clutch bell. And, because of that, the errant pin also mis-aligned my clutch shoes and they rubbed on their sides on the clutch bell. It also turns out that I hadn't put enough spacers between the flywheel nut and the inner bearing of the clutch bell which helped it to rub on the shoes and errant fly wheel pin.

It was kind of embarrasing that my buggy was making such a horrid noise during practice; it ran though and so I ran it that way for 2 1/2 hours. I kept making excuses like "clutch bearing gone; I'll replace it when I get home..." type stuff.

Thought I'd share...

Oh...w/ my nomadio sensor; the guys like it because of the telemetry it has; especially the temperature read-out. What a cool radio. And, it's freakin hot in Vegas right now :(

I had a similar problem when one of my clutch springs snapped. It caused the clutch shoe to drag on the bell so I couldn't keep a steady idle.

I had that problem recently with my revo. I just beat the pins back into place. If they come out again I'm going to try a new flywheel.

Wouldn't it be better to use a werks clutch, or does it suffer from similar issues?

Well - i found out for sure what was my problem. I attached a roto drive to my present engine, an SH 28 with pull starter. I took off the roto starter from my sportwerks 28 and put it on the SH. Guess what...it almost fit. Well, after a while, the thingy that turns the connecting rod got stripped and the stripped part started rubbing on the connecting rod which caused that horrid noise. It wasn't my clutch after all.

Anyway, I put in the correct roto start and all is well except for the slightly damaged connecting rod. Is there a lesson for me here?? Yeah, don't put in things that almost fit when it comes to the engine and clutch parts...it either fits or it doesn't.

Today's run was soooo nice...engine works great, tunes like it should and and idles just right.
