Preparing for this weekends race

Just decided to sit down at the dining room table and go over the rig before I run this weekend and have 2 quick questions.

Does this appear to be the proper pinion/spur mesh?

Also, does anyone know how to get all this slop out of my stock steering?!?!? That's got to be almost a 1/2 inch of play! (poor lighting but you can see what i mean)

It is kind of hard to tell from the picturebut what I do is get set the mesh to where there is just the slightest amount of play between thee pinion and spur gear, rotate the spur gear and make sure there are no really tight or loose spots in the mesh then adjust as needed. as for your steering I can't't tell if you have ball studs with tie rod ends that snap on or if you have the pivot ball style with a screw running through it, either way make sure all of you linkage is tight, if ball stud type check all the ball studs to make sure they are tight and the ball ends that snap on are not worn out or sloppy fitting, if it is the other type its still pretty much the same thing look for slop or loose screwws or linkage and replace as needed.

Thanks for the info, I'll go check it out now. Sorry for the poor lighting, I'll see if I can't get some better stills or even a clearer vid to help identify it.

Update, the mesh looks good, I have a very tiny amount of play so I'm good there. As for the steering, I have the snap on tie rod ends and there are no adjustments at all Only the turnbuckles for the toe in and camber. Guess I'm gonna have to upgrade my steering but I have no clue as to what after market parts there are. I never seen anything for the steering. Anyhow, just in case I'm wrong, here are 2 photo's to show the setup. Maybe someone can think of a way to tighten it up?

And yes I know it's dirty, I'm cleaning it up as i go.

alot of times those tie rod ends just get worn out and need to be replaced, also make sure that all of the ball studs them selves are tight. RPM makes good replcementball stud ends http://www.rpmrcproducts.com/products/assoc/steering.htm this is just an example I don't know what truck you have...good luck!!!

It's a Associated GT2 and thanks for that info once again. I did however find the problem after sitting at the table steering back and forth staring at everything. Turns out the top plate is supposed to have a notch on the inside where the nut on the servo saver fits in. I never took notice but when i replaced the top plate last week, there's a factory defect because that notch isnt there and the nut on the servo saver is just sliding around inside there. I'm not sure if my LHS will replace that or not. Guess I'll find out shortly.

Thanks everyone. I been to the track a few times now and have run a good share of practice, but this will be the first race. The nerves are slowly building, lol.
