got issues with my crank the there is not enough threads on this baby the crank nut bottoms out on the solid part of crank before it gets tight any ideas other than a shim ?

I really hate to tell you this...you cut it too short. I count only two threads and part of a third showing. You need to have left at least three full threads. Of course, the way the image is showing...I may be miscounting the threads.

I recommend using the stock brass collet from your TRX Pro or getting a TRAXXAS collet (costs like a buck at the LHS). Get your fly wheel on there. Then give the clutch nut a couple of good hard turns to tighten it down. If you are using an aftermarket collet, it will most likely not grab the flywheel the way you expect and some shims will be necessary. The only collet that I found to work was the TRAXXAS collet.

The other option is to acquire a new shaft and start from scratch...not an answer that you want to hear, but also an option.

It is hard to tell how many threads are left by the pic, so tell us how many full threads that are left.

With three full threads, you should be good to go. That is what I have showing on mine.

What isn't tightening down? Is the flywheel the problem? If so, see my recommendation for the proper collet.

the nut is bottoming out where the threads on the crank stop
its like the crank is not threaded far enough so that it can go depper in the crank. IT stops at the same place with three threads as it did with 4 and half threads ... Also I looked for a new crank .. no one has one and they are 35 bucks. I don't give a crap about price its that no one has one so now this thing will sit and this weekend was gonna be the first nice day in a month ARGHHHHHHH

also sky i cannot locate this brass trx collet you speak of who makes it and can you please post a link thanks X

does any one know the thread size and pitch I may just go and get a die tomorrow and try and thread this little biatch down a couple threads X

Ok I found a fix for you here is the first part and Ill be back with the rest in a minute.

I am going to try and drill out a 1/8" section of threads in the clutch nut so that I can screw it on farther, and keep everything at the same alignment.

Ok part two.

Well that was a little rough on the nerves and time comsuming. Drilled a little bit out at a time and then used the old motor shaft to clean up the threads. But I was able to drill out enough material to be able to get the nut up tight to the fly wheel, but I have a feeling it will not be fun trying to get it off in the future though. but now my clutch bell and spur gear line up just like stock

This mod was done by AlaskaMaxx.

The drill bit size was 13/64th. I hope this works for you. If you try it let us know how it turns out.

The collet in question is the one that comes with the Traxxas TRX Pro .15. It is the compression fitting that friction locks the fly wheel to the shaft. As for the nut "bottoming" out on the non threaded portion of the shaft...try the fix Hunter posted or try the clutch nut from your TRX Pro.

I'll track down a part number for the collet. TRAXXAS makes it.

Found it...They call it a cone, split beveled. It is TRAXXAS part number 3281. Tower Hobbies has it for $2.89 (a lot more than I remember spending, but my LHS usually hooks me up pretty well):

As far as getting a replacement shaft, I'd talk directly with Jeff and his crew at Fantom. They can and will help you get what you need. Great customer service.

I read an artical on TRX forum from AlaskaMaxx? He drilled out the first few threads on the nut and It worked well for him.

I will try to find the thread and link you to it.

I am not able to use the search function on the other forum. Someone else will need to find it for you.
