so far I’ve purchased my trx4m rigs based on pure looks. After running 1/10 stuff I realize I like performance, not just looks.
If you guys were to chose 1 trx4m after market built based purely on performance, what would you guys chose? I thought I would find that on my ripper or tarantula but not quite.
Thanks

So just a performance based 1/18 scale crawler? You mention after market built. Is the idea to start with an RTR base that you can after market mod? Or build up from a TRX4m (or similar) style chassis?

I'm surprised the tarantula has fallen short for you. Seems like a solid rig for performance aspect.

Maybe because I’m comparing it with my 1/10 rigs. My defender is a better performer as an overland rig but it can crawl with its limitations. It’s not that the tarantula does not crawl well, maybe it’s the fact that on 1/18 rigs I prefer trailing rather than crawling. I ordered another ripper since I sold the one I had. I’m talking about building it from scratch buying the parts individually rather than upgrading a stock one.

Ah yea. Can't fairly compare a 1/18 to 1/10, IMO. Different use cases. The 1/10 will perform better over terrain, cuz it's well bigger, more motor power, torque, bigger tires etc. Same as a 1/5 will out perform a 1/10.

If you're planning to build a 1/18 trail truck, then I'd keep the COG low (as with all crawlers), look at bigger tires with good rubber and foams to help cruiser over terrain and a solid trail performing motor. Mess with gear ratios too! You can make some good performance changes with a new pinion or spur or both!

I'm going to go smaller and plan to build up from scratch a 1/24 monster truck basher, for fun.

I look forward to seeing how you build up your tiny trail truck!

Of course, I’m not expecting a 1/18 to perform like a 1/10, my point is once you run 1/10 and up everything changes.
I had a ripper and sold it, I decided to give it another shot. I’m waiting for parts, since I’m building it from the ground.
I’m running the K10 as a trail runner, also my defender. I was madly in love with the 1/18 rigs until I ran into 1/10 😂. Still tho, lots of fun.

I gotcha ya. I do love my 1/18s too. The 2 speed is great on my FMS. Our redcat ascent 18 has impressed me as well. I really like that meus ripper body! It looks cool!

I'm currently tinkering with trying to make a "fast" 1/24. Not sure how that'll pan out 😆

I figure, tinkering is what I love about this. It keeps my mind busy 👍.

I’m curious about the ascent 18. What upgrades have you done to it?

It's actually bone stock right now, it's my daughter's fav truck. It performs extremely well out of the box. I just got some injora wheels for it, they are heavy. I had hunch they may make my FMS Land cruiser climbing performance better, sooo I took them for my truck 😆. First run with the new wheels confirmed it is better at climbing. It may be the heaviest FMS Land cruiser now, lol!

What I'll try do (I'm sure it won't work) is put the wheels I previously had on the FMS (gunmetal ones) on her Ascent18, but of course I don't have a 5mm hex 🙄 to remove the hub, so it waits for another day. Plus it looks like I'll need som hub hexes to set the drive pin on each wheel. I didn't realize I needed that for the redcat🤦‍♀️. I'm not even sure the LGRP wheels can take those, hopefully they can. If not, I'm buying another set of the Injora's they are super grippy!

Those look sweet! So, fms or redcat? One of those might be my next purchase.

If this is the case, whatever you do don't buy an SCX6! 1/6 scale crawlers are awesome. 🤣

With the FMS you'll get a 2 speed transmission, which is nice to have and you can't beat the scale look of it out of the box. All I've changed on it is the wheels. Upgrades are probably a little trickier with this one.

The Redcat body looks less scale, only 1 speed but it trails along similar to the FMS. It's a great rig out of the box. Upgrades seem to be pretty good too. I just haven't started in on modding it yet. My daughter is just having a great time driving it and bashing around the yard, she's 3. 😁

I’m just waiting on the motor and transmission and the servo, those should be here this week. I just noticed the mouse, that one is not part of the rig 😂.

Seems fair, my cats try to get in all my pics, don't see why your mouse shouldn't. 😜 🤣

Darn you with you teaser of goodies! 🤩
Can't wait to see it together. Those axles are ace! Are they meus too?

Yeah, they are the isokinetic axels. I’m only using Meus parts on it.
Update: so I ordered a motor, transmission and skidplate along with a servo on April the 8th. I’m still waiting to receive my stuff so yesterday I email them…I get a reply stating they were out of stock and are just completing the servos. This means I won’t get my stuff for another 5-7 days.
