Not bad at all. Look who’s a painter huh?
Haha. I do love painting. I also like complaining about the setup/clean process 😄. Sometimes that takes longer than the paint!

Yea I get it, the 99% prep 1% paint thing.

So far so good! I'm quitting while I'm ahead today. I'll let those lenses fully cure then tomorrow attempt to hot glue the light buckets on the inside. :)

Light buckets installed and rear lights. Waiting for the rear lenses to dry (I painted the brake lenses red) before I JB weld those in.

So far, it's looking like I'll abandon my exterior paint idea. This copper and gun metal fade is looking badass. I've got ideas to lean into a Martian themed for it now, since it's one of my favorite books 😊. I can give it a Space Pirate or RTG PWR license plate and some space themed bumper stickers 😆🤓

You might consider a silver backer coat over the inside before you call it done since you're not painting the outside. 🤷‍♀️
Thosr lights fit perfectly! Nice job sourcing those! 😎

I was wondering about a silver backer. I have more of that gun metal, no silver. what would the backer provide? I also have orange paint. Not sure if that would change the look.

I think I can see thru the paint in spots. The silver will add to the color and effect. White is another common backer and is used with lighter colors to help brighten them. A black backer could be used and give darker effects.
The backer will help keep light from bleeding thru too. 😁

Ahh yea. I put a lot of copper on for that reason, but I get that. I'll hit it with some more gun metal over the copper, hopefully that'll do the trick.

I'm no master painter so I don't want to recommend other colors that might break up your idea too much. 🤣
I like it like this. 😁

I was trying to get rid of any thin spots I could, it's always tricky though. I think the gun metal will work. If anything it add to protecting the copper.

Multiple thin coats i think is better than runny and mess. Its easier to put on another coat than fix a mistake. 🤷‍♀️😁
The gunmetal might be a bit darker but it should do the trick well. 👍
Yea, thin coats definitely is; it's the usual paint application dance. I'm stoked I didn't get any running on this one.
I've got it coated pretty well. Probably the best I can do.

I'm sure its great!
I don't know where you are with the hobby but I feel like each step, as long as I'm learning, is a right step.
I think you did a fantastic job on this. If you find later theres a thing or 3 to change, even better! You can do that to the next body... so on and so on... always improve or at least learn what happened if its a fail! 👍😉
This body is cool enough to had another as a drift car and maybe a full on MonsterVair?! 😎
Then there are so many other bodies to pick from too!!! 😍
Airbrushing is something I'd like to try over the summer too. 😁

Totally! I learned something new with every paint project. I'm already just ecstatic how well this looks as it's only the second lexan body I've ever painted! Very happy with no runs. I've been kind of letting the body tell me what style it wants rather than forcing something, which is now why I'm thinking a Martian theme will be Ace 😁.

I may have a Marvin the Martian Xmas sweater because he is my all time fav 😅
I like the old 50's and 60's monster and martian movies. Twilight Zone is one of my fav shows.
This car is right from that era! I am really looking forward to seeing how you finish this now! 😎
