So, I'm finally planning to paint this Corvair body for my TRX4 that I've had laying around for a while now. It's a blank canvas, so of course it's taken me forever to figure out what to do with it. Plus, it's probably been a decade and a half since I've painted a Lexan body. Hopefully, I've gotten wiser with age (though I doubt it 😆).

I plan to paint it both inside and out.
Current idea (using Tamiya PS paint):
- Copper for the inside
- Cobalt green OR Skye Blue exterior
- attempt of a black topographic design down each side and on the hood. Debating on having an orange show through on this.
- I'm still noodling what to do with the back (of anything)

I sketched up a concept drawing sans color (cuz I just didn't get to the color part today)

I am open to any and all suggestions on tips tricks (e.g., prep considerations) for painting lexan!

Also, I'll need help from you fine folks on light buckets or something that I can mount into this body. Part of the allure of the Corvair is the unique headlights and taillights, so I just have to get those working. I did pick up headlight/taillight lens covers that I hope will work. I'm wondering if I can tie into the TRX4 light controller? (the one that mounts to the driver door).

It'll take me a little bit to get it painted, I'm hoping to start it this weekend :)

If this works out like I have it in my head, it should be pretty cool! 😎

I love the swirl designs! 😍
I would prob experiment with leds and mounting pnl for head lamps and tails before the paint to figure that part out.
This is such a cool body!!! 😎👍
Yea, I'm not sure where to start with the lights. I was researching light buckets. Some are cool with that halo look. My original thought was just LEDs glued right behind the lenses I have (if they even work)

@OnwardGuinevere you may have to clear coat it possibly to protect the paint on the outside?
I haven’t painted a lexan body on the outside so I’m just talking here. 🤷‍♂️
Unless it's gonna sit on the shelf I advise against painting the outside unless it's flat black you keep touching up. It's gonna chip. Speed and how often it rolls will determine it.

I like the design and can't wait to see it become a reality. Good luck @OnwardGuinevere

Are you going after the rusty scratched look for when the green or blue paint on the exterior gets scratched away by rocks?

That is one if the coolest looking bodies I have ever seen. Where did you get that?

Here's some lights and light buckets tgat may help you. I'd use one of these and hot glue from a glue gun.

This is perfect! On par with what I was considering too. I see another eBay purchase happening this weekend ;) I figured hot glue, of maybe shoe goo? would be my friend for this project.

Yea I'll clear coat it too. I have an acrylic finishing spray that I use on my bicycle projects, it cures pretty hard so it's quite durable.

Shoe goo. Hot glue might warp the body

That's basically the plan. I figured if I paint the inside the copper when the exterior chips it'll add depth and a weathered look to the paint.

Good to know. I was always scared I'd melt the lexan.
It cools pretty fast, and I don't think it gets hot enough unless you touch the tip of the glue gun to the body for longer than a few seconds.
