In short I just got a ProSpec that my gramps surprised me with, I sold the V-Spec that came with it and ordered a TNT modded p5x but it will be a week or so until I get it. So in the mean time I ordered a p5x for my friends buggy and while he's out of town I'm breaking it in.

Now I found this method: http://www.johnnycoolguy.com/JCGR/main/tech_break-in.html and it looks quite promising. But I want to hear other peoples ideas and ways.

I hear these engines are frickin hard to break in due to their tight fit, I've heard about putting a drop of fuel from the top, then rotate it to bdc, and try to bump start it from their. My RD Racing Box should have enough torque, and I've had the gell cell charging for 2 days now. Any help would be great, I want to be prepared

(Also, my car came with step pins instead of crimefighters, is this just a temp substitution? They look like they will hook up well though)

Very similar to the method ImBroken posted. You may want to drop a small excess of ARO into it and make sure you pre-heat with a heat gun or hair dryer. Get the temps up to about 150 or better before you even try to start, doing so will help relieve some stress on the internals. It's TIGHT! and will be several tanks. I have the Ofna chrome top box and I would have to pop the flywheel if it stopped at TDC cause the box wouldn't turn it on it's own. Awesome now!

Do you have the RD Logics box or is this on a Revo? I thought RD Racing Products only made a Revo box?

I just finished breaking my P5X in. I have 11 tanks thru it now and have it tuned.

It is a fricken fast motor, both low end and high end.

I have the Mugen Pro Starter Box and it would n't even turn it over at first.

What I did was heat the motor with a hair dryer, took the glow plug out and make sure the piston was at BDC, and then stick on the box and give it some quick pressed. If at anytime the motor stops at TDC, it would stick and I just put light gloves on and turn the flywheel until back at BDC.

The reason I use gloves is because I firsted tried this without gloves and since you have to really hold it tight and really use force to turn the flywheel, I had 4 nice deep slices on my fingers.

After 11 tanks it will still stick if you try to crank it at anything but BDC.

Haha JetMech, you are correct, they only make a revo box. And that's what I'm using. I've found a method to put power to the flywheel easily, and I'm going to machine out some parts to make it a perfect fit. I really don't want to dish out even more money right now, I just spend 387 bucks on a p5x alone, plus this box is powerful.

Thanks for the input. I'll make sure to use the heat cycle method, I've heard nothing but great things about it anyways.

Wish me luck..

I hear ya, I've got about as much in starter boxes as anything else! Good luck with the break-in, I found it to be fun and irritating!

Well, :ponder2:

Didn't even get it started, but before I talk further, this engine has the best machinery I've EVER seen. It's simply amazing.

I tried heating it up with the hairdryers, but only go it up to like 120, and I could not get it started with the plug in. The maxx rotations I got was like 2, which I'm guessing is not enough to start this engine, correct?

I have A LOT of machines and tools in my production class at school, I'm going to ask my teacher if I can borrow the heat gun, as it get reallly hot. Try to get it up to at least 200. I'm sure hell let me. Also my gel cell kinda went bad on me, I can tell it's too old, so I'm charging a new one right now.

Bud dayum this engine is HARD TO START!

I wore out my new gel and two glow ignitors before mine fired off for the first time. I actually got it started after what seemed like forever and it ran for about 2 minutes, puked and then all my batts died. It was pretty good timing, cause I was about to chuck the thing out in the middle of the street. Most important thing is have patience, it's worth the early frustrations.

LOL, good timing ehhhh

GOOD NEWS, I got the dayum thing going. Guess what? Bad gell cells mean NO TORQUE! Do NOT use an old gel cell while breaking in a .21 I only had the new thing partially charged, but I got it started twice, but do to my retarded glow plug, it came apart like 5 seconds after it started, which killed the motor. I need to adjust my glowplug driver and charge the gel cell, then I'll be all ready for tomorrow. I did like the roar for the short time it was running :breakdown I'm just so happy I can get this thing started..

You really can't comprehend the power of the p5x until you actually tune it and drive it. wow. With 33% the low end grunt is unbelievable, it gives you the sense that your running extremely lean, but your not. I can't comprehend how my tnt mods p5x is going to be...

Man I can't wait to get mine broken in :)

Have you finished the breakin? I hear its not fully broken in till a gallon, so there may be even a bit more power left to show up!

i will also go along with u saying thast the p5x has amazing bottom end. I have about 2 gallons on mine and i love it for its bottom end.

Yep, these things don't completely break in until about a gallon or 1 1/2 gallons. I just love this engine. Everything is just perfect, except these flat head screws... there so tight that it snapped my nice flathead right off... :ponder2:

^^^^I'll agree with that, who the flip uses these things? Straight slotted screws have got to be one of the dumbest fasteners ever invented. I ordered a new set from Tony's Screws, they should be here today, let you know how they are.
