Just today I got my 3.3 Revo back together and after running it around a little bit tonight i stopped it to check the fuel and my motor was smoking. I got my temp gun out and the top of the cooling head was over 300 Degrees while the block was 190. Around the glow plug area it was 230. I'm really afraid to run it anymore since I already overheated it once during winter and now to have it smoking again I don't wanna wreck the engine. Does anyone have any helpful tips to maybe solve this issue? Also the HSN is at factory break-in settings and it has the traxxas glow plug that normally comes stock with the truck.

If the needles are set at there factory settings, which are very rich, your motor may have an air leak, causing the motor to run very lean. Try removing the engine and seal it up.

best place to check temp is around the glow plug. could it have been residue on the exterior of the engine smoking? Dust, oil or a cleaning product maybe?

Having the LSN set too lean will cause overheating. Let it warm up and start richening it just a little at a time till it gets a little sluggish off the line, then lean it back a hair. Drive it normally and check your temp.

after work today I will mess with the LSN and see how that goes. As for sealing the motor I just spent an afternoon sealing everything and doubt that that is that cause but you never know. I could check that as a last resort. Also I did have some oil around the hole for the glow plug but not enough to produce the smoke that it was giving off plus it is still there.

Look for any fuel leaks or a cracked carb, check the tank for leaks, check the fuel lines and exhaust gaskets. You live in wisconsin, and i assume it was a tad chilly this weekend? Factory settings may not be rich at all if it's cool out.

After the checks I listed above, the first thing you should do is richen the high speed needle 1/2 a turn.....Allow your engine to warm up before you make any other changes. A well tuned engine will act like it's rich until it warms up.
