I wanted to try an OS 21 RG-X in my Hyper 7 PCR. Took out the Hyper 7 and swapped over the flywheel and clutchbell as well as the 2 motor mounts that came with the Hyper. When I went to install the OS, I found that the backplate sticks down below the crankcase and does not allow me to use the stock engine mounts. Can I just get a universal motor mount or what is the fix for this??? I have heard great things about the RG motor and want to be able to compare it to the stock motor in the hyper 7.

Thanks,

Glenn

I Have that mill in my storm, I had to router out a groove in the chassis with my dremel so the pull start housing would clear, If you look at the engine while holding it in your hand, you can see that the housing is beveled, On my first RGx I was able to grind some of that bevel out, but after a while my grind job wore through the plastic housing and caused a crack, so I wouldnt recommend doing this, You could also try shimming the stock OS motor mounts that came with the mill, as long as you dont let your pinion gear ride too high on your spur gear you should be ok. I would try and keep it as level as posible. since I am not familliar with the chassis your putting the 21RG on, I would take a look at what mounting options you can first, The dremel worked fine for me, but the groove is not that atractive. Great choice in engine BTW, I am really happy with mine, although its not a racing mill, its got more than enough torque and speed for me, and extremely reliable too. Good luck !

I had to do something like that on my maxx as well. I ground the housing and backplate down a bit with a dremel and used spacers between the engine and the engine mounts.

I just found the RG backplate (non-pullstart) at Tower for $3.89 and gasket set for about the same price. I think I will just have to remove the pin from the con-rod and it should work. This plate is much smaller than the pullstart plate. I figured for that price I might as well try it. Otherwise I will try the dremel and some spacers.

Thanks,

Glenn
