The PTI isn't too bad a crawler, and has plenty of potential. It needs a better motor and tyres, both of which this one has, and it also comes with spares.
The PTI crawler is priced on Towers at $250 RTR, $200 kit, (these are 1/18) and $312 for the PRO 12, which you would assume means 1/12 scale but somehow ends up shorter than the 1/18.... no I'm not kidding. You can also get the extended chassis kit which is actually SHORTER than the other 2 versions.

The PTI is definitely a decent rig, and its different than the Axial. However, the weak point definitely seems to be the axles the plastic diff gears when used in a high torque application like crawling.

Personally, I would buy the Axial over the PTI every time because of quality, but if you're buying the truck with plans to replace a lot of parts, you might want something different to start with. You need to be good at making your own parts to work where you need them because the aftermarket support is quite weak when compared with Axial.

The reasons that I stated above about the weak diff gears and axles, and needing to be able to make your own parts, things like that, are things that I got from the PTI crawler forum that I visit a lot, that's the way that most of the PTI guys answer the questions.

I also see a lot of guys trying to compete with a PTI that spend 6 months and tons of money on it, only to decide it's not going to give them what they need out of it, and they're mad about how much money they've wasted, instead of buying a TLT axle or Axial axle rig in the first place.

i havent really seen one before but heres a vid of one in action.

Save yourself time and money, don't buy the PTI stuff. I know a guy that ran one and every course he had to put a new ring gear or pinoin gear in the diff.

Yeah & no metal replacements.... For the money you'll spend trying to keep it running, You could build a Berg!

That video was of a bog stock PTI, as can be seen by the rubbish wheels and tyres, and the speed v lack of torque that it had.
They are more of a rock racer like the RTR AX10.
I didnt know about the diffs being rubbish too. I'll let my daughter use that one.
Not to derail the thread but seeing as there are two guy above me that can talk on the BERG... Are they as good as they look Chip and Radron?

They are worth there cost, They have some advantages over the AX10 that make them appealing,no Trans,so no drive shaft woes, much lower COG when set-up right. I don't have one,YET! I will be building one when I get my Scaler done. There are 3 at my track & they perform very well.

Chip & Charlie can fill you in on what points I missed.......

I love my Berg it has Zero tq twist, super low CG,and it is tuff as nails. There is a few down fails there kinda pricey, parts are hard to come because there a new HOT item, and they take two motors. Some complain of Clod stall, but I use it to my advantage. I do like the front and rear dig set up it help out alot.
