Okay, I went to take a look at the nearest off road track about 30 miles away to ask some questions, such as what type of clay, ect.... And what do i find??? I find the largest RC track in the southeast. 1/4 worth of track, 310ft x 120ft with a 14ft tall drivers stand, air conditioned pits, powerr, water, and 100% clay!!! cost 45,000 dollars to build it, he said!!!!! Okay - now the bad part - there was not 1 person there. The even worse part? he only charges 10.00 a month to use it. What is going wrong here??? why is this track not more popular??? I am having second thoughts, if a track this jam uo still isnt popular. Might be on the wrong idea. I am going to research this some more before I build mine, also gonna look more into on-road. Ideas? I am gonna take some pix of the track this week and post them, maybe you guys can enlighten me as too what might be wrong with it.

Ever thought people just don't know about it. It's probably his personal track and just says, "well i'll let people run on it, but i might as well make a lil money!"

Hell if I was rich and built my own track, i'd let people run on it, just not for free, but damn near. This guy has the right idea!

every one new about it, cause when i would ask the LHS's about it, i would get the same answer " yeah its out there on boggy creek rd...go if u wanna." would say it with no enthusiasm, like it it was a crummy track, thats why i was so suprised when i saw this monstrosity

Nitronewbie, where in Florida is this track? My parents live in Sebring which is about 1 1/2 hours south of orlando. I just saw in the Sebring paper where they are building a RC motorsports park in Desoto. They are supposed to have a dirt track, a high banked paved tri-oval modeled after Daytona Speedway and eventually a scale drag strip. It is supposed to be ready to go this month.

Damn, sounds like a badass track, it's too bad it doesn't get more use.

Maybe the owner is a peepee and was just nice to you. You never know what can keep people away.

Every LHS in the are SHOULD know where the local track is. But unless this guy is holding races with possible prizes/cash and promoting it the right way, the only reason to go would be for open season (just bashing) which most will do in their backyard. Its all about how you run the place.

As far as the cost goes, well, lets just say it wouldnt cost near that much to do it right. As a matter of fact, you will probably spend the most money on you transponder setup. The software, hardware, transponders and computer will get up there in cost, quickly. Unfortunately, AMB is probably one of the only companies out there making them for R.C.. At least that is all I know of.

Lastly, if you are in it to make money you are in the wrong business. I dont know any track owners making enough loot to quit there day job. You will find that MOST track owners are in it because they wanted their own personal track and decided to make it a public place. But if you had your own LHS on site, then you are talkin!!!!

If anything, build the track for yourself and your buddies.

i think i may build a track in my back yard this summer. the dogs killed all the grass and all I'm left with is dirt. i dont mind because i dont have to cut any grass, and it is good for my losi... I'm not building anything big, just a few jumps here and there... i can't see how anyone makes any money in the hobby world honestly ...

You will find that most tracks are built not only to have fun but so you have a great place to brake your RC. Here In CA all the commercial tracks are owned and operated by the LHS.

Its all about promoting the track and the attitude of the staff.
If you build it will they come? Not necessarily.

One of our local tracks uses a clay mix designed for full size tracks. He has the local landscape supply company mix the formula for him. I think he said it cost about 60-70.00 per yard.

Another thing many people don't understand is the amount of maintenance required to groom and upkeep a track. They have 1 full time person dedicated to the task. Watering, patching, sweeping, and rolling just to name a few of the chores.

If you have a LHS and do your job well a track may pay for itself in time, but for the most-part is a great way to increase the sales of kits and parts.
