I know it's a bad idea, but... I'm running plastic diffs that have run out of thick grease in the housing. Also, the differentials themselves are dry inside. What liquid oil do you guys use inside, and thick grease for the housings?

If it is an unsealed diff, just Mobil 1 synthetic is what I use. Same in the housing as well.
 
What RC platform/vehicle are we talking about?
I've had a few RCs that used paper-like gaskets

to seal the diffs. Maybe you do have a sealed diff, but didn't get to the outdrives to see the o-rings yet. Is that a possibility?

Yeah, it may actually be a sealed diff huh.

Do you have a link to it? Just the same stuff you'd put in a 1:1 car?

But as Rusty asked, post up what this diff is out of. If it's a sealed diff, you will want to use diff lube.
