Do not take your clutchbell off to watch your clutches expand. Serious damage may occur to your face and other body parts. You may also damage and/or loose important clutch pieces. Just my :2cents: .

the spring will break and the shoes will fly into fly off (yes I've done it) with one of my ST engines out of curiousity.

Works really well in this situation

Curiosity killed the cat you know.

Yeah, I talk from experience. Just a slightly busted lip and broke my clutch spring. Sorry, no digi cam. I really need to get one though.

Food for thought...
RC engines generate between 30,000 and 45,000rpms.
Composite material clutch shoes weigh about 2-5grams.

Engine at full throttle (or approximately at 40,000rpms) will eject those clutch shoes at roughly 120mph. Being so small, you are lucky to have only received a fat lip. You could have lost an eye or worse someone close by could have.

wow I'm a horrible newb and i knew not do to that - even if the clutch isnt on there you will overrev the motor with no drag - they are only designed to rotate soo fast, after that you can forget about your piston staying inside the motor

man you are probably lucky to be alive after that, i could see a piece of clutch piercing flesh so easily

id imagine with nothing attached to the motor it would easily exceed the maximum RPM stated by the manufacturer as they bench test with load. you are talking no-load RPM which I'm sure is insanely high, guessing for a .15 probably close to 50,000. maybe more but I'm not willing to find out.
