Hey guys. Got a good deal on a Kyosho, and an extra rig that had all the parts in a box. I have no idea what
kind of car it is, its huge. Just wondering if anyone could help me out. This thing is a little older and the Motor has
No identifying marks except for an "H" on the side. The H has a slash through the upper left quadrant. Just trying to figure this big guy out my son and i are starting to put it back together. I can take a picture later when i get home if it helps. Thanks Guys for any info.

I think its an HOBOA, not sure if its good bad or what.. If anyone can confirm this and maybe give some info on how i would find out more about this particular motor that would be great.

Can you post up some photo's of the vehicle it's in? Guessing it's just an RTR engine that came in it as many older "racing" engines didn't have a pull-start on them, which it looks like this one has remnants of.

Sure once I get home. This motor was never in this vehicle per say. It came as a chassis with some suspension and a box with all kinds of parts and the motor. Came along with the kyosho. Pics as soon as I get home. Thank you!

One of the things you can do for ID ,is to look on some of the parts that are on the chassy to see if there is any
brand markings.
You have to watch out because back in the day ,half the parts were changed out for after market parts ,EXAMPLE ,that
engine may have not went to that chassy ,an to make it more confusing ,that head of the engine maybe an aftermarket!
Example ,The H can stand for 3 different brand engines...Hot bodies ,Hpi ,or Hoboa..

The engine could be an entire different brand from the chassy ,because Kyosho made their own engine line!...

That is what I figured. My kyosho is separate tho. It was a complete rig.
All the other pics are what came with it. I have scoured the chassis and I find no marks. With one exception, there is a tiny metal piece up front that has a "0" stamped on it. I'm sure it's nothing. After messing with the motor alignment I realized the mounts don't line up. The holes would have to be drilled in order for it to mount. I'm very lost. If I were to salvage it would it be worth it? The motor doesn't seem much bigger than my kyosho motor and it's a much smaller scale. Would that motor even push the big chassis? Sorry for so many questions just trying to figure out what to do....

Pretty sure the truck is an XTM Mammoth ST with something weird for the center spur. It came with a crappy 2 speed that liked to break itself and many replaced that with a center diff. It was a big truck for the time, mostly due to the overly long bumper/skid and chassis deck. Fuel tank was huge and ran forever. The diffs are weak as well, if I recall, they ran planetary gears vs spider. Also, XTM aluminum was very soft. Things bent easily. I had one for a while.

The tank on yours doesn't look original and with the battery/receiver box missing, it's hard to be sure, but it really looks like a mammoth st to me.

This was mine when I got it:

I made more bracing for the center to rear because it flexed so bad. Totally hack, but stiffened it up some.

I don't have many photo's of it.

One more with the body off and everything on it to run:

Is that the 290 cc fuel tank?

The one on mine was stock, which was huge. I may have swapped mine out for a smaller one. The first photo has the original in it. The rig was basically a brand new roller when I got it. Even the body looked new.

Omg thank you. That's what it is. Looked through the box and the battery case is identical to yours. Probably should have looked earlier!

Is there any way you could tell me what motor i could run in this? Does it need anything specific?

Not really, just a big block. Yours appears to be a single speed, so you'd want to get something with either enough RPM's to be fast, or enough torque to pull tall'ish gearing. Depends on what you want to spend. I'd lean more towards a higher RPM engine, easier on the clutch. "cheap" and "good" engines are in short supply these days. If you can find one, an LRP28 would probably do ok in it. Tops out with a pretty high RPM for a relatively torquey big block, and enough mid-range to make the rig feel snappy.

Not sure you can find one though as I read they are going out of business.

Could go with a budget 28 like this:
https://www.rcplanet.com/engines/engines-car-truck/dynamite-28-rtr-engine-with-ps-dyne0571/

Not sure I'd bother with a .21 sized engine in a rig that size.

It would work, but personally, I wouldn't get it due to the combo spin/pull start. A buddy of mine had the Losi 454 with the same mechanism. 5 starter housings later, he gave up and got a different engine.

I'd go with the dynamite 28 I listed as it just comes with a normal pull-start.

Cool. Thank you very much. Gonna purchase today. Is there any other parts I would need you think?

Might need a shim kit and new set of clutch shoes/springs as well as a set of bell bearings. Might want to take your bell off and check. New bearings is always a good idea for breaking an engine in since it spends so much time idling. Also a couple spare plugs wouldn't hurt.

OFNA used to sell a shim kit that was very comprehensive, but they don't exist anymore.

This one doesn't look too bad:
https://www.amainhobbies.com/protek-rc-1-8-scale-flywheel-nut-collet-shim-kit-ptk-7150/p222026

This in a pinch:
https://www.rcplanet.com/rc-parts/r-c-car-truck-parts/associated-rc8-clutch-bell-shim-set-asc89148

I usually keep a pack of these on hand to take up most of the bell end slop, then use thin metal shims to get it right:
https://www.rcplanet.com/rc-parts/r...axxas-teflon-fiber-washers-5-x-8mm-20-tra1985

Would assume any decent 1/8th shoe/spring set would do ok for you and most cb bearings are 5x10mm:
https://www.rcplanet.com/rc-parts/r-c-car-truck-parts/traxxas-ball-bearings-5x10x4mm-2-revo-tra5115

I buy my bearings from fast eddy in packs of 10 usually: http://www.fasteddybearings.com/

Decent shoes: https://www.amainhobbies.com/dynamite-maxlife-aluminum-clutch-shoe-set-dynp5180/p10016?r=0
I have 2 shoe max life's on my 21TM revo and they are holding up well. I have the above ones in my spare parts box for my savage or big block revo when the time comes.

Springs:

https://www.rcplanet.com/rc-parts/r...en-clutch-spring-1-1mm-mbx5r-5t-mbx6-mugc0753

Sorry, I just have this kind of stuff on hand, so I don't think about it much.
