Hey guys, I just sold my T-maxx and bought a mini-T and have some questions about batteries/setup. I've been thinking about going brushless and was wondering what the main difference is between Li-po packs and normal NIMH packs. If i were running a 7 cell 8.4 volt NIMH pack with the 8k mamba system, could i expect decent speed/performance? How would this compare to a 2cell 7.4 Li-po pack. And what makes the difference? Also, this may be a stupid question but is there a difference between nitro Rx's and Electric Rx's?? Thanks for the help guys. Lovin this truck but i'm in the dark when it comes to electronics.

Jo

i would suggest that you go with the simple nimh pack because it is cheaper overall and you will get ausome performance. i had that setup and an 8 cell nimh pack and i could not buy parts fast enough because of the speed and head the gears produced. I would suggest a 6 cell. With six it will still flip over backwords and depending on your gearing will still move quick enough to be unstable. hope that helps.

Yeah a Mini T with 6 cells is fast enough. I have one with a Spy ESC HS55 servo, and a stock motor not the Lost speed motor but the stock one and that thing rips.

Why are you guys trying to discourage him?

Zippo25 do a little reading in the micro 1/18 scale forum, you will find several posts about the mamba and batteries. From what I read if your going brushless you want lipo.

Thing is, i'm not looking for anything massively insane. I'm building my RC18 up to be a skatepark basher and thats my biggest concern as far as lipo's go. (getting damaged and being super expensive to fix/buy more) I'm only looking into brushless mainly because i dont know how to do all the cutting+ maintenance on brushed motors. Also, can anyone answer my question about the Rx? Thanks again..

Nitro and Electric's do use the same Rx/Tx but the mini's use a mini recever instead of a normal size

Li-Po packs can sometimes if not watched when charging catch on fire. With the normal packs you dont really have to worry about that.

Zippo25,

First when you want to go brushless you do not have to get a LiPo cell.

Second the main advantage LiPo cells have NiMh is lighter weight and for roughly the same size have higher capacity and deliver higher voltages. The higher voltage will enable yout brushless to reach its full power/RPM potential.
It would not be practical(weight wise)to have a large NiMh pack to deliver the same voltage.

Third any micro 1/18th powered by a fast Mamba(6800 and 8000)will be fast on the insane side, even with a six cell NiMh pack. be sure to get quality packs made with Intellect or GoldPeak cells. No not get the trashcan no brand ones, why? Simple, very simple...the lower resistance and gigher amperage the Intellect and GP deliver will make your 1/18thb scream. The motor will get all the amperage it needs when you nail the gas.

Ok i was looking into chargers today and stumbled across the vision peak ultra. but i was also told that if i were to use this charger i would need to use a cell balancer.. whats a cell balancer lol. I'm assuming it monitors each lipo cell to make sure they are charging equally?? how important is it for me to use one? Also, is there some magic lipo/ general battery information page anywhere? it would be tons of help. Thanks so much guys for all the help so far.
