Hi my name is Brad, I'm 14 years old and I bought this nitro mad fire buggy from exceed rc about 2 weeks ago. my problem is that I can't get my buggy started. so I set it to factory settings and open the carb gap a little so it usual fires right up first few pulls. after I've done that then I have the problem where when car idles it runs away from me slowly, but then if I close the gap on my throttle control a little then when I cut my car out when I'm all done with driving it, I can't start it back up which leaves me to opening the gap up again to get it going. also when I do get the car going I can't go full throttle or else it dies or makes a bogging noise. I don't know what to do. should I return it and go with electric car? any suggestions I can try? I'm pretty new to this nitro stuff if ya can't tell ;)

-thanks

Have you followed the manufacturer's break-in procedure yet? You can't just start and run. They are set at the factory for the beginning of the break-in and then must be adjusted accordingly during each tank. They are stubborn when they are new, but if you rush it and don't do it right, it's not going to last long and you'll never get it running at its best.
Go back to your manual and read, read, read. Follow their recommendations and NEVER try to get speed out of it during the break-in. After each tank, rotate the flywheel to bring the piston to BDC (bottom dead center) and let the engine cool completely before starting it again.
If you have any issues, keep us posted here. We'll get you up and running.

Thanks I'm pretty sure I broke it in the proper way. But I will read manual and find out proper break in when I get home today if I did it wrong

+1 @Rolex !!! I would make sure that the carb is set properly. If it only idles when you turn the throttle adjust on the radio, your carb isn't set right. Start at the beginning. Do what the manual says and follow it carefully. The break in procedure is the most important thing you can do with a new nitro. There is ZERO quetion about this. We will certainly help you out as you get into this more. Def no need to go for an electric!

It is pretty normal to have to give a nitro engine a little extra throttle to get it started when the idle gap is set correctly, isn't it? It makes it a lot easier to get them to fire up if you open it up 1/4-1/2 (just with the TX trigger or trim, not changing the idle screw setting)

Yep. I know I do. I've seen new guys crank and crank and crank without holding the throttle open a little on a cold engine and they just don't like to start. Or, they pump the trigger a couple times (like you would pump the gas in an old car), then try to start. Which does nothing.

I've always used the throttle trim. On my M-11 there's a push button that is a pre-set button for a higher idle, solely intended for cold starts.
When it's warmed up you press the button again and it drops to normal idle.

That is nice. What brand of radio is an M-11?
Sanwa Airtronics. It's the round silver button to the left of the steering wheel.
