I just bought a mugen mbx5 roller off ebay for around $130. I need to know if i should put a brushless system in it (If so, which one, and why) or keep it nitro. (Once again, which motor and why). I'm wanting to know which one would be cheaper and/or better for racing. I'm trying to keep the whole setup under 600 if at all possible. Would only like to hear facts, not blind biased opinions. Thanks.

I boils down to preference, I have both and each has their pros and cons. My brushless setup has a Tekin 1400KV and 1900KV that I switch back and forth. For Nitro I use a Werks B6 Pro, both have more power than I am capable of using.;)

nitro is bomb dude! Get os engine, worth it!

nitro and electric cost about the same initially when getting a full on race kit buggy. nitro will have an ongoing cost though (nitro fuel, clutches, air filters, oil) electric is usually all an upfront cost, if you have good electronics and don't smash it up, you won't have to spend money on it for a while

exmark is right. Nitro takes tuning too. Which can sometimes be a huge pain and just frustrate you. Electric will be instant awesome performance.

Id say if you are gonna race it keep it nitro...it its gonna being for playing Id go brushless with an RX8 and Mamba 2200 on 6S. I know a guy who has a MBX5 Truggy he put that set up on and he has some sick video of it bashin.

2200 on 6S! I can imagine!:D I have a old as the hills Kyosho MP 7.5 that I have setup to run either a Tekin 1400kv or 1900kv paired up to a RX8 I tried the 1400kv with a Thunder Power 6S and for playing around it was fun, but for racing around a track it was crazy fast. LOL Even toned down it would carry the front end up all the way down the straights.:hehe: Things sure have changed since I was into this hobby 10 years ago. For the better I might add.. You will have a blast what ever way you decide to go. One nice thing about elec depending on where you live is if your just playing around out in front or back of your house your neighbors will appreciate you for choosing elec.:( I have a old Bat that lives next door and almost everytime I fire up my nitro buggy I get a dirty look from her. The electric version she can't even hear, heck the drivetrain makes more noise than the motor does.. Gotto love them metal gears.

Let your ears tell you

Electric is the new thing.
All the power at an instant.
No tuning ,just plug and play.
Here's the BIG BUT.
Have you ever been to a drag race or an Indy car go right by you at 200 mph.
It's asum.
Nitro will do the same thing .
The cost is about the same, but do you want to watch a silent movie or the roar of you nitro buggy :D.
Its really your choice.

Noise noise noise! Sadly I must say electric! The noise just seems to eliminate half of the places and times to play! And the no tuning is really really nice, although I enjoyed it.

I just switched back from electric. Electric is great, but there is plenty of expense and maintenance there too. Bearings like to cease up. Batteries are a constant hassle to keep charged and maintained. Gears can be a problem too especially dealing with big power setups. For racing 1/8 Buggies I would think Nitro is the way to go. If you're just bashing go electric.

If your gonna do electric I would go RX8 ESC and if your racing I would go with the Tekin T8 motor. probably 1700 or 1900kv on 5S. If your gonna bash Id go Mamba 2200kv on 6S.

Thanks everyone. I think I'm gonna go with the nitro setup. Is the werks b2 a good engine for racing?

What is better? I've also been told that the Novarossi P5XLT is really good?
