Hey guys I was just wondering if I could have a list of all drop in engines for a traxxas rustler. I have been looking around a bit and there are a few O.S. engines that fit and obviously the traxxas engines. direct drop would be preferred but small mods i can cope with.
Thanks guys :D

The O.S 21tm engine is a direct drop in replacement for the 3.3 on the revo & tmax & accepts the easy start system so it might be the same with the rustler.

The OS .18tm will make a rustler scream. Bad thing is they don't make them anymore but you can find one if ya look around.

I think you are getting your OS engines mixed up Dyna. As far as I know they never made an .18TM.

As for the .21tm personally I think its a little much for a Rusty, Id look at an OS .18 TZ(P) if it were me.

They did make it for sure. You can go on ebay and find a new .18tm block, head, and all internal parts plus a carb to build one from scratch right now. I just looked to make sure.

Hmmmm thats odd cuz OS doesn't list it on their website, even under the discontinued product listings...but I do indeed see it on ebay so it must have happened, I stand corrected. At any rate the .18TZ would be a good current model to pick :)

Wow thanks for the info guys! I just checked the prices for the TM and it would cost £378.43 (roughly US $600) plus postage :S its a little out of my budget range.

The TZ how ever is only £120 in comparison. Tbh this is the most I would really want to spend on an engine, I know some of you may think this is cheap but I am 19 and on an apprenticeship wage so money is a big factor in what I can buy for my rigs :S.
Thanks again guys :D

Like Zdragon said, the .18TZ will throw the Rusty around like a rag doll. The .21TM is just complete overkill and really wasted on that particular kit IMO.

Is there any ugrades I will need 2 make if I pop a bigger engine in it??

is there any upgrades that would be a good idea if for the bigger engine??

sorry for the double post I didn't realise it had actually posted up

You may want to go with HD axles from the 4WD slash (I can't remember if its the rears or the fronts that are a direct fit.) or you could go with steel MIP axles either one. Other than that you should be fine. You may be fine anyway. Id just use stock at first and see if they hold up though myself.

I'm looking at an O.S. .18 TZ that has a turbo plug, what's the difference between a turbo glow plug and a standard plug?

---------- Post added at 5:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 5:08 PM ----------

also where would people suggest buying one from?

---------- Post added at 5:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 5:14 PM ----------

I'v checked out some axles, they don't seem to expensive so i will probably just wait until mine go pop then replace them with more reliable ones whether its MIP, CVD, or the ones off a slash.

This is copied from another website so if any of this info is inaccurate my apologies...

""Turbo" plug. technically speaking, their design offers an small advantage. A turbo plug is tapered and doesn't need a washer. It seals the combustion chamber nearly perfectly. Standard plugs with copper washers can allow leakage out of the engine's combustion chamber and possibly a slight loss of performance.

The tapered end on a turbo plug allows the combustion chamber to be smoother and less likely to disrupt the fuel/air mixture during combustion. There isn't any concern with the thickness or reusability of glow-plug gaskets either.

With that said, IMO, we would not be able to notice the ever so slight performance enhancing benefits however, it is what it is."

As for where to buy them you can get them any place that sells regular glow plugs....LHS, Amain, Tower, ebay etc.

be sure to look at your starting options. Are you happy with a pull or bump start?

Is that engine a direct drop in do you know?? I honestly hadn't thought about starting options, I was just goin 2 bolt on a pull start I think.
Would a TRX 3.3 be over kill on a rusty or would a 2.5r be more suited, just as an option

How does a bump start work on nitro??

Its a box the rig sits on top of and when you push downwards on the glow ignitor a rubber wheel sticking out of the box turns the flywheel to start the mill. You just have to have a large race style flywheel so that it can connect with the bump box. This is something used by racers mainly that dont have to constantly restart there engines. If your just a basher then a bump box is not something you want to have to carry around all the time.
