I'm very new in this hobby and my first kit ever - Losi 8ight 2.0, is still in transit.

I'm just wondering if I could convert the 350 engine with a starter box to a pull start system or if its worth just keeping the starter box. I'm thinking that It might be more convenient not having to carry that starter box around.

Would any of these work?

Combo Pull/Spin Start Assembly:MS26SS/454 ($23.74)

Full Pull Start Assembly: 3.4, 810 ($53.99)

Thanks.

if you are wanting to convert get a roto start its alot easier trust me i just got mine converted from pulstart to roto

yea, pullstart is definatly a last resort, spend the extra cash and get a rotostart if you dont want to have to lug around a starter box.

the Second link you provided is the one you're going to be needing though, the buggy you ordered comes with a non pullstart engine which means it has nothing but a crankcase cover. The second link you put in your post looks like it comes with the entire backing plate assembly. Also, the losi PS also looks like it comes with a hex drive on the back of it as well. So it would mean all you'd need to carry is a cordless drill to turn the engine when your arms get tired from pulling the PS

I was just wondering if that worked for you and I have the same problem and does anyone know if this part would work
Losi Pullstart Conversion 3.4cc Engine

And if that got back in touch as soon as possible please

Thanks

I would recommend starting a new thread. Esp if you want a quick response. Posting on a thread from 2011 isn't gonna get a lot of answers. When you post, put your specific question in the title. I do not have this kit so I can't help any further than this. Good luck!

I was once told that it would be cheaper just to get an engine that is already a pull start. I believe the reason was that along with the pullstart kit, you'd also need to replace the crankshaft, cause a bump start engine crankshaft doesn't have pin/rod that the one way bearing needs to sit on.

I was told this in regards to a picco.28 that I wanted to convert, by the guy that runs ERCM...if he's still doing Mods, I placed an order last Christmas, and didn't get a confirmation reply, so I bought RR10 bomber stuff with my money instead.

You may want to consider a Roto start. Tiger drive by Sullivan products(?) I believe that is the correct info. Anyways, they are an excellent option and may work out to be cheaper in either case.

I thought I wanted a rotostart for my Savage until it occurred to me that I'd need to carry it everywhere I wanted to be able to restart the truck. With a pullstart I just need a glow igniter in my pocket and I'm good to go drive down the street to the park and can restart if I need to with no extra hardware.

Agreed, something else to carry. I take a wand to start the traxxas. It is general consensus that pulls are a pain but they Def do have their advantages too. If you run in colder weather, the pull might be more of a pain... That type of thing?

Keep the starter box...I hate pullstarts. They're ok for just bashing, but they're a pain when they fail. But that's just my experience with them.

The losi spin/pull start combo is trash. A buddy of mine had it on his 454 and he went through 6 or 7 of the starter assemblies. They break apart inside.

What engine are you trying to put it on? Is it a bump start engine or roto only?
