First of all just want to say hello as I am new to the forum. I am looking at getting my first crawler, I have had a Nitro MT for about a year and decided I needed a change of pace. So now I have a couple of questions after reading many of the posts. I am planning on getting the Axial ARTR. I have a Futaba 3PM and a Hitec 7955 servo that I planned on using as radio gear. As for a motor and esc I am unsure as what to do. I would like to get the CC Sidewinder and unsure what motor of brushed or brushless and how many turns? I would also like to get one of the 6 cell split nimh packs and mount it on the front axle, I was thinking of this because I have a basic charger that will only do up to 7 cell. So I am not sure if the split 6 cell would be enough or if I should get a 7 cell and mount it in the regular place? Last question, I have a Mac computer and am unable to utilize the perks of the CC Esc, but if I get a CC Sidewinder and use a Nimh battery do I have to use a computer to make a change on the ESC or will it automatically do it? I tried reading the owners manual on the CC website and was unsure as to the answer. Sorry for the long post and all the questions and thank you for the help.

yeah get a sidewinder, then like a 55t or 45t, a 45 will give you alittle more wheel speed and you will still have good torque. might as well do a 7 cell if you do any...they will fit just like the 6 cell saddle pack...you can program the sidewinder by hand without a computer, just takes some reading but its pretty straight forward....good luck with the purchase, any questions are welcome here in the forum and you can always pm me if need be...you might look into a custom built crawler to for some thing already bad ass!!!

I would also recommend the 7 cell saddle pack, I would recommend getting them from cheapbatterypacks.com with 12 or 14 gage wire, like SNG said you can program the Sidewinder manually but it take a little getting use to and will not let you access it full potential like you can with the castle programmer, I would also recommend getting a CC BEC, I am running the same servo as you plan too and because it draws so much power it was causing a lot of glitching problems, the CC BEC fixed this. If you can I would find a friend who has a PC and see if he would let you use it to program your ESC so you can take advantage of using the 100% drag brake along with brake and throttle curves, you will also need the castle programmer to program the CC BEC to 6 volts if you decide to get one, so you can get the full potential out of your servo.

would it be better for me to get the mamba max vs the sidewinder in that case? also should I get a brush or brushless motor? I'm coming from nitro so I don't know anything about electrics or have any of the tools for cleaning the brushed motor... thanks for the input so far

if u get a mamba u still will need a bec..and go brushed. brushless sux on crawlers imo, I've tried it several times and the cogging will piss u off fast...

Thanks for the props rollin, now if I could just drive as good as it looks, LOL!!!!

With which ever ESC you decide to go with you will still want to get a Castle programer to program the Castle BEC so you can have 6 volts going to your steering servo, so if you go that route you might as well get the Sidewinder since you would have the programmer for the Castle BEC, IMO.
