new to r/c...looking for opinions on a good nitro truck

seems like you are in the same boat as me. I'm still leaning towards that rusty just because of the speed and durability.

I'm thinking get a rustler rtr and learn all of the in's and out's of nitro trucks and everything and become a good driver and then if i really fall in love with the hobby and wanna start racing...i would buy an actual kit like the xxx-nt or rc10gt. then i would get a real good engine and radio and build it all myself with hop-ups for racing. then i can go out there and kick some ass with an actual racing truck.

what do you guys think about that?

Banshee - As I said before, the rusty is a great truck, however, i would still recommend either the losi or gt. The difference in speed is about 10-15mph, not that great, and with an upgraded engine, will blow past a rusty.

you say u want to learn the in's and out's of the hobby, and that is great. Please keep in mind though, that the rusty is completely different than any other stadium truck. that is why i am opposed to traxxas products, they are all that way.

one last thing - if u look at the final's at just about any major race online, u will find that 9 out of 10 trucks that win will either be the losi or the GT.

Whats the fun if you can't upgrade your parts. Like I said My brother has the sport he put on the grahite arms and this is no joke, he was cruzing down the road stop quick did a 180 his front wheels poped up came down with a broken arm. My brother's friend also had the graphite arms but they havn't broken.
On my ruslter I dremeled out my STOCK arms you would think this would make them more weaker but no. To this date I am still using stock a-arms. I upgraded Front and Rear shock tower to carbon Fiber, Just because my rear broke, I upgraded my upper chassie to carbon fiber because off less flex and looks cooler, same with the tie-bar. All-and All I love it and Its gonna come down to when your at the LHS and you see that blining 2.5 engine and make your desicing:ha Well good luck on your decision and you can always find help here.

I still think that the AE would be a better choice than the rustler, its chassis layout is more mainstream, there are as much, if not more aftermarket hop-ups available, and alot more titanium and aluminium hop ups. Plus, the legendary AE reliability and customer support.

RPM anything is great - i personally like hardcore racing better though, they offer more titanium and aluminium parts thant rpm.

thanks alot for all your help and quick responses nitro addict and everyone else who helped out.

nitroaddict- how exactly is the rustler different than any other stadium truck out there? I'm just curious. like is it the handling or the way its built or what?
i think I'm gonna go to one of the hobby shops around here and check out the losi and the rc10 and see what the guy has to say about them. I'm also gonna check the prices they have.

sometimes the fastest kit is the fastest to get broken when you are new to RC'ing. If I would have got a 50mph car for my first I would have been out the pocket even more than I was do to my inexperience. just my .02

Ya the Rustler is a basher and doesn't handle anything like at Losi or GT.

banshee - the best thing i can tell you is to go compare the three at the LHS. U will see that most ST's share similar build strategies, while the rustler tends to go its own path in the design dept. i am not saying this is a bad thing, i just think that for your first one, u should stick to the mainstream, doubly so since u will break alot of parts as u learn.
