We've (son and I) been into RC trucks and cars for a while and we just bought our first crawlers. Bought a used Axial SCX24 Gladiator and a used Axial AX24. We are having a blast doing RC inside during this FL summer. We've run them for a couple hours and I cannot figure out this one thing:

The AX24 runs flawlessly and its awesome, crawls over anything. The SCX24 is cool, can almost keep up. But after a few minutes of trying some harder obstacles and getting stuck it seems to lose torque. It almost feels like a progressive decline. We found that if we turn it off and let it sit for a minute that it regains its power. What in the world would cause this?

We are running a 2S lipo (35C). Have two of the same battery, same problem with both.

Id also check the battery sounds like a lipo bounce back also but as said above could be esc/motor over heating

Motor or ESC may be getting overheated. The stock motors in the SXC24's is not the greatest.
I'm going with the crappy motor. An easy fix with a $15 Injora replacement off Amazon.

Another thing to check is to make sure the wheels aren't over tightened. it puts strain on the motor causing it to overheat.
Good call! I forgot about that silly design issue.

Oh yeah! Forgot about that as well. Good call.

Thank you everyone! The wheels seemed properly tightened, played it safe and reset them. Ordered the Injora. Will report back in a few days!

I think the stock motor was the first thing to go on mine, while replacing it with a cheap 050 motor I fried the esc by mixing up the battery plug wires into the esc somehow. 🤣 then I got a furitek lizard with Bluetooth dongle. Best decision ever.

Installed the purple injora motor, it's definitely better. Look at what my stock motor did!

It all seems to be running smoothly. Although, this truck is definitely louder than our AX24 (same stock motor as SCX24). I bought this SCX24 used, so I'm unsure if this amount of noise is normal...

It’s the worm gears that are noisy I think
