Lost a bundle on my 401 last year. With the way the economy is, figure a lot of you did too.
So I got a loan and purchased an '03 Durango with 42,000 miles for the better half. I knocked down my contribution from 10% to 2%. Almost the same paycheck with the loan being taken out. ($15 difference)
Bronco is sitting in the back yard. (no it's not on blocks) I had thought about selling it. Got about 200,000 miles, still runs good and the body is in decent shape. Gets about 12mpg and got that Ford "road walk" going on though. I really hated to drive it.
Had to pull the kid out last weekend. He was about a mile back in the woods. The old truck did pretty good. Went through some fairly big holes. Kept in 2-wheel drive just to see how far I could make it. Didn't go to 4-wheel till we hooked a chain to his. Bronco wouldn't pull him out right away. Was dark and didn't see how bad he was hung up. (Frame was bottomed out and had to jack it up the next day.)
Really thinking about keeping the beast now. Always thought about getting something to beat around with. Going to cost me $100 a year to keep insurance on it. Maybe make a project out of it? I won't take my daily driver in the woods. Be good for that and to take fishing.
Maybe getting the 'ol lady a new ride has got me an off road beater.
