I've been looking to get a new radio for my maxx. I don't want anything fancy just need a decent radio preferably one that is already set up to accept a battery pack. I've done some checking and can't tell what will accept a pack and what wont. Would like to stay under $150 also. Let me know what you guys think.

Any of the newer radio RXs will take an RX pack. For the money, I'd recommend the Spektrum DX3e great radio with 20 memories for less than $100. Here's a link at A Main:

I've been using Spektrum gear since I got back into the hobby years ago and have never had a problem with it.

RX meaning receiver I'm looking for a TX that will take a pack. Sick of swaping batts. and don't want to buy a whole different charging station for rechargeable batts.

It is capable of using NiMH batteries and charging them internally with the optional wall-wart.

So what your saying is I can't buy a radio that I can just put a flat pack in and charge the pack outside the radio?

Futaba 4PLS is an awesome radio and will also accept a battery pack. Load it up with a KillerRC LiFe pack and you're golden!

They do make them, but most that can do what you're asking are more expensive than the price point of $150. The Futaba that Woodie mentioned is on sale for $200 and the Spektrum DX4s is $250 plus the LiPo.

Ok so far I've read about spektrum, and a lil about futaba, which is recommended for bashing.....are there many more to consider

Don't let something simple like that hold you back from buying a radio. Is pretty easy to install a charging jack.

Granted, I was a bit annoyed that the DX3E didn't have a stupid charging jack, but it doesn't. I didn't realize it until I got home with it after picking it up at the LHS.

I took one of the stickers off and installed a typical receiver charging jack on it and soldered it to the battery tray, then run 2500mah NiMH cells in it and just plug it into my normal 6V rc charger.

I just purchased the Futaba 4PLS system after much research. I must say that I was one click away from purchasing the Spektrum equivalent radio however when I heard that they might get interference with the FlySky radios out there, I just about had a heart attack. I'm not sure if that is still the case but I live in a metro area and I'm sure I would run across someone with a FlySky radio at some point and just my luck would be that he would be in my race / at the same track as I am at the same point in time. Back when I was younger and did a lot of RC I had several futaba radios and I loved them. I was also 16 - 20 years old and didn't take care of my stuff that well and they lasted and worked well, so when I saw the 4PLS on ebay for $200 I grabbed it. My local hobby shop only sells Spektrum so they lost the sale when they told me they could order it and I would have it in a week. Sorry, no stock, no sale. I can order it myself and have it shipped to my door, save the sales tax and probably pay less.
