I'd prefer if he just wrote my name on a ticket, put it in a hat all by itself, and then picked it back out proclaiming me the winner. That's a system I can agree with.....LOL....
Candyman is correct. I've had a programmer create a program to which it randomly picks a number between 1-50,000 (I think it's that high) and then stores the number in a file. I manually create a new file with every members name and their assigned number so I know who wins.
The program also creates a second file for me which automatically displays how many tickets have been sold. When we sell the amount needed I use the same program to randomly pick a number out of all the numbers in the first file. That is how the winner is picked.
The official count thus far is 47 sold tickets. It would have been higher had a few members actually submitted their username with their purchase as instructed, instead their payments have been refunded.
