Well I'm lookin for another thing to add to my list of hobbies. I already have a couple. Flatland BMX, urban assult dirt jump, trucks, slowly getting into helis, and I'm a drummer. My life just don't seem full enough. I'm thinking of getting into skate boarding (that will be fun)
Any ideas.

Well for me this is more of a lifestlye than a hobby and I'm hooked, but I'm already looking for time in a day for my RCs with work and school, can't imagine trying to get into something else and having to divide my time.

yeah, I'm with Charlie. This is WAY MORE than just a hobby for me. It's like my life away from my life within my life. Yeah... something like that. RCNT has become family to me and I love my collection. If I had big problems I'd sooner give up my couch before my cars. You can only have so many hobbies and for me there's barely enough time for this one.

At your age, do yourself a favor.... Find a hobby that you can make money doing... There's nothing I could want more in life, than to get paid WELL, for something I enjoy doing... That is the key to a long healthy life my friend...
Good luck in your search..

How is this a lifestyle? Don't you work. I love these trucks soo much but I wouldn't make it my life. How do you make money from this. Idk about races but if u do I make money for the urban assualt dirt jump competions. Trucks just require so much time and money. For me its the money part.

Ugh. Yes, I'm sure most of us work. It's all within the eye of the beholder. I consider this to be much more than a hobby though. I spend more time reading and chatting within the forum than I spend wrenching or running my vehicles

How to make money? Well, you could open up your own shop or if you just wanna make a few bucks on the side you could paint up bodies for people. If you're good enough (read: efficent) you should be able to make a fair $$ for your time. I've looked into this recently and I believe it's certainly feasible to make much more than minimum wage painting bodies on the side.

It sounds to me that you have many interests right now, and you may not have truly found one thing that you enjoy so much that you would be willing to spend a significant amount of time owith. (read: 40-70 hrs./week)

Of course I work.. I didn't necessarily mean the R/C hobby to make money from. I just saw that you listed many of your interests/hobbies and recommended that you look for something that can earn you money down the road. ie: Woodworking, metalwork, welding, cnc...etc

Well I already have a job. I work for my uncles bodyshop 3 days a week for 10 hours making 15 an hour. What I was asking is what can I do when I can't go to the local parking lot to flatland or if it rained yesterday and the dirtjumps ar muddy or if my trucks outta commission.

hell I wish skateboarding was as lucrative between 89 - 98....I guess it was just starting to get more cash flow by then but I was just too old, my daughter was just born and I was not really into flinging myself down a double set of stairs til I landed it, got a 9-5 and blah blah blah...I wish I could enjoy going to work again.....IF you are truly good at the dirt jumping stuff stick with it....but realize you won't be able to bounce back forever....I've had alot of good friends turn pro and get rocked so hard they quit whatever sports they were doing.....the ante on your body goes up WAAAAY higher when you have a sponsor breathing down your neck....I thought the stuff they would ask me and my friends to do sometimes was insane...now they build bigger and badder poop for pros to try and kill themselves on.....

To me it doesn't sound like you've found anything that you REALLY enjoy. That's going to be the key. Why spend a bunch of time and money on something that you "kinda" like, when you could find something that you loved and could eat, sleep, breathe and still want more. For me thats restoring cars and building hot rods, and right now it's mostly building 1/10, 1/8, and 1/5 scale hot rods.
