What is a good buggie that I can buy that is something I wont grow out of soon, I was looking at an Kyosho Inferno, Ofna 9.5 and another one called a swift? Any pro's and con's concerning them? or any other that would be a better choice. Possible going to want to race. But need somthing else besides my savage to play around with.

sorry for the spelling.

All are good choises, I have a Swift myself. (can check out pic. in my gallery) I would stay away from the Inferno if it is the Sport RTR the one you are considering, IMO, you have to upgrade too much stuff to get it competitive if you are going to race. The Swift, Ofna Hyper 7 PCR, GS Storm, Kyosho Inferno (not sport) are all very well built and worthy cars. It would all depend on how much you are willing to spend to start with. If money is no object then definately dont look any further than the Kyosho Kanai, but if you are on a budget any of the others can do very well with propper set up and tunning.

Again Just my opinion, hope it helps.
Have fun with any choice you make :dancin:

Budget between $500-$700. I read alot about the swifts last night on the forum, they seem to be a good car are the aproved to race?

who makes the swift.. what is parts availability like.. in my opinion.. i like the Inferno 7.5, but.. like they said.. the sports RTR sux.. dont get that one.. you can get a regular version of

the Inferno, competative, world champ, lots of parts for it.. very tough, and you could consider the Kanai version

MBX5. The mugen buggy is very well built.. and looks good.. hast PBS front steering.. and laydown servo for lower COG

The hyper 7 PCR, still a good buggy.. best one that Ofna has IMO..

If you are looking at either the kyosho or mugen.. i would get the Mugen, personally, i drive the Kyosho.. but rumor has it, that Kyosho is releasing a new buggy soon, that will have the PBS steering and laydown servo..

From what I have been reading (this may not apply to every brand)

The "sport" versions of any buggy,mt,stadium truck are just that. They are sport versions meant to bring down the price. This way. the entry level hobbyist is more likely to buy their brand then say *cough* Durtraxx.

The downside to the sport versions are usualy inferior parts, lack of standard good stuff, basically the components are as cheap as they can get and still function for day to day use.

Also some "sport" version are a somewhat different design alltogether, and in some cases cannot be upgraded to the pro or RTR versions.

RTR packages are usually just a stripped down version of the pro, again meant for the entry to mid level buyer. These can usually be upgraded to the pro version with a bit of cash.

Did I get that somewhat right guys?

yes you did.. the RTR versions of many kits.. are a cheaper.. with not all the bells and wistles.. like the aluminum chassis braces.. or the good shocks.. or the nice lightweight chassis..

For instance. Hyper 7 Pro, has alot of purple aluminum, thicker shocktowers.. purple chassis braces.. carbon fiber radio tray, center brace, and front brace.. has better diffs.. the RTR, has standard diffs.. regular aluminum trays, regular chassis braces.. that sorta deal

Kyosho Sports.. plastic spur gear, weak shocks, weak towers, 2 planetary gear diffs, with aluminum ring and pinion, different chassis.. where you can't run a different motor.. cuz the clutchbell rubs on the chassis.. the Inferno, has the thicker shock towers, better diffs.. harden steel ring and pinion, steel spur gear, and so on.. so yes.. and RTR buggy is a good starter buggy.. and can be upgraded..

I agree with dgrobe2112, with your budget I would go for the MBX-5 too even though you might just go over if you want a serious racing engine..

dgrobe2112, the Swift is made by Power Racing Products, and is very similar in design to the MBX (PBS steering, lay down servo, sililar layout). The quality of parts on the MBX is better of course
but if in a tight budget is a very good deal, for less than $500 RTR with MX-3 FM Radio, carbon fiber radio tray and front brace and cvj's all around. Not bad, have had for about 3 months and no complaints yet.. Plus, my lhs has parts in stock.
:D

What do you mean no complaints yet?

Haven't the diffs lock/skip?
Or the CVJ pins repeatedly loosen out?
Or the diff outdrive get eaten up by the dogbone pins?

How often have you run your swift......
I've ran mine with less than a gallon and all the above problems gave me time spent on pits than on track.

Every buggy has it's down side, but its a matter of what you want and how competitive you want to be. I got a Kyosho MP 7.5 RTR Sport and 50 bux for my OFNA Dominator. The first time I took it out I bent both rear shock rods. Since then I have invested more than 500 dollars to upgrade it to competition level and dgrobe2112 will tell you that I am pretty much there. The other day I bent my RTR Sport chassis, so now I am looking to upgrade. Take it from me, go ahead and get the Kyosho MP 7.5 Pro or Kanai version. I like the Ofna Hyper 7 Pro and Dgrobe2112 had a Mugen MBX5 that was bullet proof. Just .02 cents from a guy with experiance. Man I got to quit :preachin: so much...LOL

No the diffs on mine have never locked, the diff outdrive is fine, and yes I did have cvj pins fall but after thread locking and puting shrink tubbing on all 6 have had no problem. I have run about 2 1/2 gallons of heavy jumping and bashing on street, grass and dirt. Only thing I have broken has been a Heat sink fin after the car did about 5 flips and cartwheels and landed on it's lid.

Sorry to hear that you have had problems with yours, but I'm really happy with mine. After I first lost a cvj pin I wrote to PRP custumer service and they sent me 4 new ones right away.

i got the hyper 7 pcr and it runs like a raped ape! The thing is fast and can take a beating. I'm definatly not the best driver out there and land nose first on the jumps one wheeled landings and all kinds. It takes everything i throw at it and laughs. It comes with a starter box and its not the best one out there, but once i got it started once i haven't had any problems with it. If you go with the pcr the only thing i recomend is changing the steering servo. If you have any ?? just ask we're all here to help.

I say buy what your lhs stocks parts for, and buy the pro version even if it means a little less motor.:2cents:
:buggy1: :redbuggy:

I'm looking to get the Kanai 3 myself, but i have been saving for a while.
If your on a budget,
I've only heard good thing about the hot bodies lightning..
I don't know from experience, but thats what i heard.
RTR for like $375
