Ok guys I'm sorry if this question has been asked a million times but I'm brand new hear and would love some advice... I want to get myself a Nitro car, I went to my local Hobby store and they were hopeless and really gave me no help they had 5 Nitro's but couldn't really explain the difference... So I'm guessing I'll have to purchase online...

I'd like to start with a really good quality car, in regards to usage, It would be a combination of asphault and grass, I'd never really be driving it in sand or dirt... Is there anything else that I need to add? I have no price range as I said I'd just like to get something really top of the range... At the Hobby shop there were some ready made cars and some cars to build... I asked the question which is the better option but again got no help here...

Thanks guy in advance!

Tom

Greeting and welcome to RCNT! The best bet for a combo of asphault and grass is a truggy or a monster IMO. Grass is hard on a buggy and impossible with an onroad car. Do you like the monster truck look? If not have u looked into the truggys and stadium trucks? Some are going to say get a Traxxas Slayer, and I recommend them for your application, but they do have a shorter ground clearance.

Hey thanks for the speedy reply... I really like the buggy look in cars, are there any buggys that would be suitable? Although I do like your suggestion, are they top of the line cars? I want something AWESOME!

Traxxas makes some fine rigs! As for buggies, there are a lot out there, but I don't know that they would be suitable for grass. They, along with most off-road rigs, are designed for a dirt track. Look into the Losi Muggy for starters. Maybe the Losi Aftershock as a possible Monster. If you are set on a buggy the Losi 8ight is nice. Then there is the Losi 8ight-T which is a stadium truck (truggy) designed off a buggy chassis.

Well i have only heard of bad stuff about the traxxas slash because of its high center gravity... if theres no dirt involved you might be interested in a traxxas jato 3.3 but ur a beginner like me and thats a way fast car that would and wouldn't recommend... here it is...

'

another good truck is what i have... a nitro stampede....its 2wd not too fast but still very fun to mess around with....really good ride height also.... here it is....

I think this is the best of the 3 IMO... but its revo and they ar kind low like a race car yet have a good suspension to land jumps for bashing... its an amazing car 4wd really fast and you dont need to be a pro to drive it... you could get the 5308 model if you can't wait like 5 days but if you can the new one is supposed to sick....if you like reverse like me then go with the new one model # 5309...AMAINHOBBIES WILL SHIP IT TO ON AUGUST 12TH IF YOU CAN WAIT TILL THEN, and for a car like that, i would...here she is...

idk wat happened to the jato but click that little blue line there on the right...srry

It's all in the suspension tuning! And, on grass and asphault, I see no problem with the SLAYER!!! He said nitro.

Also, to those looking into a SLASH, they are darn good rigs. Tough as nails. I have yet to break it.

Hey guys, so there is a big price difference in bewteen the Slayer and Revo... Do I assume the Revo is better? Would it be a faster and more powerful car? I assume these cars come already built... Is there anything bad about that? Is it better to build the car from scratch? Or can the Traxxas cars still be customised?

I tried to find a Slayer vs Revo forum but couldn't are they two completely different cars? I like the look of both... But can't decide which one to buy...

HPI make really tough and strong machenes the make buggys trucks and truggy and parts are allways available

I agree about that. lol. The Slash isn't terrible. You just have to know how to drive it, and have the suspension set up right. I beat SC10's all the time at my track, just because my setup and driving is better. As far as what car to get for a first, I'd say a Savage if you're looking to bash. They're nearly indestructable.

Hey guys, so there is a big price difference in between the Slayer and Revo... Do I assume the Revo is better? Would it be a faster and more powerful car? I assume these cars come already built... Is there anything bad about that? Is it better to build the car from scratch? Or can the Traxxas cars still be customized?

I tried to find a Slayer vs Revo forum but couldn't are they two completely different cars? I like the look of both... But can't decide which one to buy...

The Revo and the Slayer really can not be compared. The Revo is sickly fast and is a race-proven design. The Slayer is more of a specialized truck built to mimic the full-size CORR racers. Yes, the Slayer uses the Revo's suspension layout, but with shorter arms and smaller tires. The Slayer will not handle like the Revo does. The choice comes down to personal preference, but IMO you would be happier with the Revo if you are stuck between the two.

Yes, the cars are RTR (Ready-to-Race in Traxxas vernacular) and just need batteries and fuel to get started. Buying RTR's is not a bad thing--about 60% of all RC rigs sold are RTR. If you want to learn about it vs. buying a kit then just tear it down and put it back together!

Traxxas rigs are among the easiest in the hobby to customize. Everyone, and I mean everyone, makes plastic and aluminum upgrade parts for Traxxas vehicles. If you want to upgrade it, you will find it. Check out this page: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0095P?FVSEARCH=revo. There you will get just a taste of what can be had to mod a Revo.

Good luck!

all of the other dudes know WAY more than i a bout diff trucks. but my advice is be carfful where you run, be sure you permision to be there and start out slow till you know the truck. allso be ready for anything, these trucks run FAST which means they crash VERY fast.

I have a t-maxx 2.5 and so far I am pretty satisfied with it minus a few hickups here and there. The revo is more for racing do to the shock setup but it does make a great basher for a price but you have no price range. If I was looking to get a good reliable truck it would either be the T-MAXX or the revo. I would stick away from the slayery due to the fact they have only been on the market for about 6 monthes now so it probably won't have the upgradable parts avaliable for it like the t-maxx and revo do. The t-maxx is the most upgradable monster truck on the market but I bet the savage is pretty close now. My t-maxx will take a hell of a beating its the 4908 version with all of the gray parts on it and I jumped it probably 6ft in the air and easily 12 ft long nose dived barral rolled probably 8 times and the end over end a couple all I did was check for no obvious broken parts and connected my ez-start and took off. These are just my opinions though.

If you plan on racing and bashing, I would also recommend the Revo. The upgrades areeasy to find and the truck is pretty competitive out of the box as well.

I have a nice Race Ready Revo for sale in the For Sale Forums for you too! ;-)

...or a Truggy if you prefer! hehe

Where are you located? What parts/vehicles does your LHS carry? Those should play into what you buy as well.

The revo and slayer are both good rigs for what they are. For grass running, I wouldn't suggest a jato or any other 1/10 stadium truck due to the ground clearance and weight. I had to do quite a bit to my jato to make it run in the grass and be fun anywhere else (new wheels/tires/wheel-hubs/gearing...). Even still, the grass has to be pretty short or it isn't going to go anywhere. That said, it is a fun rig to have at a skatepark or when you just want to lay down some speed in a parking lot. A bit twitchy at high speeds though... Did I mention it was fun?!?! ;)

I have no idea why the revo/slayer differ so much in price. Pretty much the exact same rig except the slayer has smaller wheels/tires and shorter arms/suspension.
