Hey Painting guru's,

I am going to be painting a Grave Digger shell here shortly. I know the truck is not just plain black. I believe there is some purple in the paint as well. I don't have an airbrush and will be spraying with Rattle cans. Any advice on colors and how to paint this rig so it looks as close as possible to the real deal? Thanks guys!

Tom

Hmm. Not sure about the true Grave Digger color. I always thought it was black, but what do I know? Anyway, if you want to get a purple-ish black but have to rely just on spray cans, it might be tough going. I would see if there's a transparent purple available in a can (can't seem to find one on my search) then back it in black. Another option would be to use one of the purple based color-changing paints from Spaz Stix and back that with black. I would suggest going very easy on the color-change as it is a very noticeable effect. You might want to try it on a cleaned soda bottle before you actually shoot a body with it. Oh, and definitely wear a mask and shoot it outside. That color-change paint really REALLY smells.

Well I don't know about past diggers, but I can tell you Digger XX is just black. I got up close with it at the Orlando Monster Jam, and the base color was just plain black. I do know one thing for sure, after painting one already, and stupidly using the flame decals, no way will I ever use them again if I paint another one. I WILL paint the flames next time.

Thanks for the tips guys. Reading the directions that came with the lid, it said to get the true effect I would need to mix the black with purple. It is a parma lid. However, if it is just black, then just black it shall be. Unfortunately I will have to use the vinal flames though. Thanks again for the tips Candyman and NC..... I will have to try the color change paint though sounds cool. Great pics!
