I'd like to convert my iTunes music to MP3 files so I can burn many hours of music onto one CD to play on long road trips.
Is it possible or had Apple locked it up?

If your iTunes music is protected, you can burn it as an audio CD from within iTunes. You can then rip them in iTunes and then you can use iTunes to burn an MP3 disc from a playlist.

A few months ago I downloaded some freeware off of CNET.com, I think it was called AAc converter. Anyway it worked fine for converting Apple to MP3. I was making ringtones for a droid based phone.

I've burned many iTunes Audio discs, but I was hoping I could do an MP3 burn without burning more CDs first.
I have several burning programs for everything from CD to Blu Ray, but I haven't been able to move iTunes files or folders into them.

Are the files protected AAC files, Rolex? If they aren't, a lot of higher end aftermarket Head units will play them like mp3 files without an iPod/iPhone. Unfortunately, most of mine are protected, so I have to use my iPod with my Alpine head unit.

I haven't gone all the way to burning the CD but I think this works:

In iTunes:

Edit>Preferences>'When you insert a CD': - Import Settings>'Import Using:' MP3 Encoder>OK>OK

Select the song(s) that you want to convert:
Right click>Create MP3 version
Then wait until it finishes converting

You will then see the song listed twice:
Right click>Show in Windows Explorer
You should now see the .m4a and the .mp3 versions

Bob's your uncle?

Open I tunes
click edit
click preference
Under general click import settings
Import using mp3 encoder
Change settings if you want to change the quality of songs
click OK

right click on song and click create mp3 version

You only have to do this the first time, once it's set up you should be able to right click on song and click create mp3 version
