need motor install help

ok buggy gods.. I'm almost fed up with this buggy.. here is my most recent problem..
1. which way does the nut that holdes the flywheel go?? its on a nitro star .25 does it go flat side up or flat side against flywheel?? the reason I'm asking is because the springs on my clutch shoes arent lined up with the groove in the nut.. there having to bend way down and i think it will limit there ability to sling out.. i have the nut flat side against flywheel but it looks like it would line up better the other way..
2. I'm putting this ns .25 on a ofna ultra gt buggy.. the buggy has a slotted motor mount so you can adjust the motor left and right and front to back.. the crank case on the .25 has a lip where the back plate and pull start is.. this lip hits the motor mount and doesn't alow the motor to be adjusted far enough forward for the cb to line up with the spur.. (its not even close) is there an aftermarket motor mount to put this motor on this buggy? i thought is came factory with a .21 and i figured there wasn't that much difference in the .21 and the .25

right now I'm about to toss this thing into the creek.. i can't find parts.. the parts i have dont work... and now i found out that i dont htink the radio works.. the guy said it did... knowing my luck when i get it running ill wreck it and it will shatter..

The flat side goes to the flywheel. Make sure you are putting your shoes in the right way that will cause you to bend and butcher your clutch springs.

Just do a little grinding on the motor mount. I had to do that to put my 24.7 in my hyper.

i was thinking about cutting the motor mount but i dont know if it will let the motor slid far enough forward befor i run out of mount.. and please explain more on the nut and springs.. my .25 on my savage the springs were strait with the groove and this one they are not strait at all. its like the grove is to low..

Your springs should be striaght. They should not be at an angle. My guess is that the shoes are on backwards. If you could shoot a pic I could be sure.

the shoes are the same size on both sides.. and i went and got some other shoes i had.. same width on those to.. i wish i could draw a pic or something.. ill have to take a pic tonight..

when you look at the shoe from the side you see a groove that the spring sits in, right? that groove is offset fromthe center of the shoe.......make sure when you're putting your shoes in that the coil of the spring rests easily in the knotch for the coil and the Flywheel shaft to slide through...if it doesn't then your springs will have to twist a little to seat in the groove....is that what you're seeing?

ok the spring has a long curved leg and a short L shaped leg.. the long one is in the groove on the shoe.. the coil is around the shaft on the flywheel.. and the L shaped one is pressed against the nut but the spring isnt lineing up with the groove on the nut.. its like the groove on the nut is to close to the flywheel.. the L shaped leg is bent down to stay in the groove on the nut.. the motor on my savage is a .25 also and the spring line up with the nut groove.. I'm not sure if it even matters because the flywheel, nut, shoe, and spring are all gonna be spinning at the same speed. i just dont want the bending for the spring to fit in the groove to affect the shoes ability to fling out and engage the cb.. ya know?? ill try to take a pic of it tonight... man i was hoping to get that damn thing put in so i can at least start it..

maybe you can get a different nut w/ a higher groove or see if you can shim it somehow....when you put the CB on over it all is there alot of shaft still sticking out?
If so you could be able to shim it (the flywheel nut) out on the shaft a little more from the inside instead of having to putting washers around the shaft on the outside....or if you could shim it and the CB hangs over the end of the shaft, get those littel racers edge washers and fill in the gap.....

i have to put a bushing in there or the cb touches the flywheel..(between the nut and the cb) maby i can put a washer under the nut.. then the nut, then a bushing, then the bearing, then the cb, then another bearing, then the screw..

take off your shoes and springs and then install the clutch nut. Then reinstall the shoes and springs make shure theyre going in the right direction also.

if you don't have any already I highly recomend getting the Kyosho shims, they have .1 , .2 & .3 thickness washers in one pack...and a set of the racers edge washers...those are small enough to fit in the bearing race and allow the scre to slide through easily.....Everybody want's me to do theirs cause I do it right and all it is, is having those washer sets in my box......

it sounds to me like your trying to use the savage flywheel, with the ofna clutchnut. this combo wont work. make sure your using all 1 brand of parts. i managed to stuff my top .28 in my ofna hyper7 using a savage flywheel, but you have to use the entire clutch system. i have since changed it out for a ofna flywheel and i made sure to use thier clutchnut as well. if you buy the OFNA clutch shim set, it comes with all the shims plaidfish mentioned in one big set, its pretty cheap too. also dont be afraid to use a dremel on some parts. just be smart about it and plan things out before you cut. you can't hurt too much because even if it doesn't fit when your done, remember it didnt fit when you started either.

ok guys heres the pic..

did i do something wrong?? or is it not bad enough to worry about??i got to thinking, i can't put a washer under the nut because the threaded part of the shaft is bigger than the other part and the washer just fits the non threaded part.. and on the "can't use ofna nut and hpi flywheel thing.." the motor came with the flywheel, nut, springs, and shoes.. all I'm using from the buggy is the cb.. thanks for you time

looks perfect to me. you want a little bit of twist in the spring. the way you described it was more drastic than that.

its more of a swist than my .25 on the savage.. but this is only the second time I've put a flywheel on so..

all is good huh?? i sure hope so..

Cool. That's exactly what the springs did in my K4.6 in my Savage build. Good to know I did it right.
