yes you read the title right i got so bored i decided to put a big block .26 into a duratrax evader st. Took a little time but now i can take it out and not have to fix it all the time but now i need more gearing.
I have changed the tires to solid foam tires and they are 3inches tall(stock is 4 inches) and they are kinda small and now i have lost all of my top end and i need to get it back. I am running 60/20 and it doesn't have any top end. tons of low end. if you could let me know how to get it back and maybe more. I know it is a duratrax but i have moded it to the tilt(nothing more can be moded):redbuggy: let me know what you all think.
thanx John
also i just checked and i can only get 56 or 60 tooth spur.

You say you won't have to fix it all the time? From what I remember, the duratrax evader transmission wasn't all that strong. I can't remember, but does it use the same kind of spur gear/clutch bell as the rc10gt? I can go down to 24/54 if needed :-)

well it has kinda the same but it is now all aluminum and i have ran it a few times without any problems. So I'm guessing that if i go bigger on the clutch and smaller on the spur i get more top end and the visa versa. Also i can't post pics i have forgot how too but if you want some i will see if i can get some for you. Thanx John

upload them to photobucket, and then copy and paist the "img" link to here. make sure you resize to 800x600 first though (i think photobucket does this automaticaly)

The easiest way I've found to find the weak link in a drive train is to hammer the throttle after the engine is tuned and warm. Usually the weakest link will snap. It gets kind of expensive, but works.

well i just took it out for something to do while i was breaking in my new savage x ss and i found the weak link its the brake rotor but i just put a metal one on order. i will see if i can find my photobucket password and try to get some picks, it will be broken due to no brakes and a curb jumping out in front of me. LOL. thanx guys

Believe it or not, your issue might be the change in tire size. The smaller tires will cut your speed down dramatically. Your issue might be fixed by simply putting the normal sized tires back on.

this is definately a big loss in gearing ratio....it works on the same principle as a gear, only you calculate diameter instead of teeth....but you should get the smallest spur and the largest CB you can...if it looses too much bottom then you start dropping ratio or you could cook your mill fast or your clutch shoes fast......get aluminum shoes if you haven't yet.....

i will try the new spur and clutch bell and it that doesn't work then i will have to get some new tires and rims. Also would it hurt for me to put some weight in the front of the car to help with steering issues i have, i have a big servo and i still have barely any steering at all. Keep in mind i have no front suspension just rods!!!! i should get my stuff by friday and i will let you all know how it works. Thanx John

Why are you running straight tierods on the front suspension vice shocks? The stiff front end is probably causing all kinds of steering issues, not to mention any bump you hit gets transferred to the entire rig and probably bounces the front off the ground causing all kinds of steering issues. More weight in the front might help keep the front on the ground, but will not really solve the steering issue all the way.

You have been given some good advice with regards to the gearing to overcome the decrease in tire size. Just make certain you heed all of it or you might destroy more than the engine on the rig.

The cheapest solution will probably be to put the correct size tires on it. Then adjust your gearing from there to give you even more speed.

Also, make certain you have beefed up the rest of the drive train if the engine you dropped in is more than normal for that rc.

as soon as the front a arms come in i am going to try the tire thing and if that works i might try gearing to get even more. As for the tie rods on the front the car is ment to drag race and nothing else but i was thinking about getting small shocks for the front so it takes some of the bounce out of it. thanx for all of the advice guys i will let you all know the out come.
Thanx John

If it is a drag racer, then think about putting normal size tires on the back and keeping the smaller ones on the front. Might give you the best of both worlds tire-wise. Not familiar with the evader, is it all wheel - fourwheel - or two wheel drive?

As for the suspension up front, a set of stiff springs might do the trick, but the tierods are just asking for more broken a-arms as the force of any bump in the front goes straight to the chassis without any kind of shock absorber in there.

evader is just like the rc10gt,xxxnt,firestorm and many more just 2 wheel drive and i was thinking about just putting biger on the back and trying that.
