Need Info on GS Racing SUT

I have finally decided to get a MT and have narrowed my choices to either the LST or GS Racing SUT. I have having a hard time finding Video footage of the SUT in action. So I ask for you experiences. I am not racer but my buddies and I have been starting to talk about track time. We most head to construction sites, dirt lots, etc... for bash sessions.

The sort of information I am looking for is:

Are parts expensive? ( I know this is relative, but to give you an idea, I think Serpent parts are expensive. Where as Associated part are inexpensive)


Can it handle rough terrain?

How good of a jumper is it? ( I have seen some Savages really sky. IS the SUT build for this sort of abuse)

What are the weak spot of the Truggy?

Is it fast in comparison to a TMaxx? (Slower, Faster, As Fast)

Are parts hard to find?


And any other impressions....


And if there is anyone out there that has experience with both the LST and SUT I especially would like to here from you. Comparisons and Details

The SUT is a GS Storm with extended hubs, regeared and has a larger block obviously. It will handle most terain, but it's really designed for racing. Mine is slightly slower off of the line than my original T Maxx was but then again you are trying to compare apples and oranges. The T Maxx is a small block with a 2 speed trans and the SUT has a single speed center diff. The SUT's .25 performance is much smoother and has more torque than the smaller blocks. It will will out handle the T Maxx pretty much hands down because of it's much lower cg. Forget about wheelies if that's what you are looking for. Parts are easy to come by.
As far as the LST goes I have only held one in my hands at lhs. It appears that the LST has more ground clearance and Losi has a great name for the products that it produces.

Parts are average price-wise, finding them is the more frustrating part than paying for them. I have the best luck buying from those who part out RTRs on eBay and from Stormer Hobbies (www.stormerhobbies.com).

It can handle rough terrain quite nicely, although its ground clearance isn't up to traditional MT standards since it's basically a buggy. Very nice and smooth independent suspension.

Jumping....it can sky very well, it's pretty tough, it's almost TOO controllable in the air (big power+big tires+great brakes+light truck=almost too much air control, extremely responsive)

Landing...as long as you don't land square on the back end it's fine. If you have too many back-end-down landings on only one tire you can break the lower arm mount screws. That's probably its biggest weakness in my opinion. There are solutions to that problem (stronger screws and hinge pin braces). The other main problem is that the little shim under the shock pistons is very thin and weak and will cup out pretty quickly, thus sliding down the shock shaft and allowing the piston to do the same. Easy solution: Yokomo diff thrust bearing washers, oddly enough! They're hardened stainless steel and much thicker than the stock shims - they'll outlast the truck! $6 for two packs from Yokomo, I believe.

One of the magazines said it was the fastest RTR they ever tested. They got it to 41 mph and it really tears off the line, too. Pretty amazing for a single-speed truck. Wheelies don't happen because of the center diff. Actually the GS25 engine in my SUT was too much for me, I had trouble controlling the truck! I put an O.S. .21RG in it and am happier. Still fast, but more controllable. I put the GS25 in my Savage and that thing pulls wheelies all day long and revs much better than a stock Savage 25 engine, so you can imagine all that power in a light truggy instead a heavy Savage! Lots of people like the GS25 in their SUTs though, I guess they can just drive better than I can.

I have no experience with the LST, can't help you there.

To sum up, the SUT is a great race truck in my opinion, and if you address a couple nagging issues it's quite reliable and durable. Handles great, doesn't traction-roll (unless you have GREAT traction), it's fast, etc.

If you do get an SUT, try to get one with the JR electronics. The GS servos I got in mine didn't last very long. I haven't tried the GS transmitter/receiver. The JR-equipped SUT is only like $40 more than the GS electronics version and DEFINITELY worth the extra cost!

As for video, we've got a little bit at www.slapmafro.com. Farm Bash 6 and 7 both have a little, as do "Rabid" and "Storm", the SUT is the one with the orange old-truck body. There's also one put out by GS Racing I can send you or post, but I don't have access to it at the moment. You should be able to find it on GS's website, however.
