Anyone here been there before? I am planning to take a trip there this holiday.

Anyone that has useful info, please post here.

- I really need to know is there any near by airport at Grand Canyon? If I stop at Phoenix then I have to drive 4 hours to G. Canyon.

How far is it from Las Vegas?

Seems to be a 4 hour BUS DRIVE this should mean about 3-3.5 by car.
You will also see the Hover dam and VEGAS!

Found this on Yahoo.

Distance: 274.9 miles
Approximate Travel Time: 5 hours 29 mins

I went to the Grand Canyon once. Once....
It's kinda cool. But the reality is that it's a big hole in the ground. It's not near anything. And it does take a while to get there. We came via Flagstaff as we were passing through to LA. I guess it was kinda neat. It probably would have been more enjoyable if we didn't have our 3 month-old baby with us and trying to drive a 17' U-Haul with a car trailored on the back. But seeing it was the middle of summer and we had a bitch of a time just finding the place, we just turned around and split...

Its not close to any major airport. You have to drive 5 hours either way. Did you know its a big hole in the ground?? Utterly fantastic for the first 30-40 seconds.

The wife and I drove to the grand canyon from Vegas after New Years. Took us about 4 hours to get to the big hole in the ground. We left vegas at 4 am and got to the southern rim around 8-8:30.

There's not really much to do there during the winter but we walked some of the trails and had a nice lunch at the lodge. Drove back to vegas in the afternoon.

BTW, if you can, visit hoover damn on a seperate day. I enjoyed that more than GC for some reason. Maybe because it was closer. :)

Use to live in Flagstaff 5years and at the Grand Canyon south rim for 8 months. I also use to guide long hikes i.e. 15-30 days in the canyon. You can fly to flagstaff but not worth the money just drive. I don't think most people like the dam parts of it as much as the south rim but that’s just how I see it. The North is by far the best but in winter you need to ski/snowshoe in. The winter is the best time to see it. Not as many people, cool pics and not too cold well most of the time that is. I have been climbing in the canyon at all times of the year in t-shirts and shorts just depends on the weather and how far down you go. Sedona is on of the coolest areas and if you drive from Phoenix it's not far of the highway MAKE SURE TO SEE IT!!! Also kind of cool is Jerome old ghost town of sorts. I would stay in Flagstaff if you don't mind the drive it's way less money and you can do other things. The drive up to the ski area outside flagstaff (snowbowl) is nice and you can even see the canyon on clear days. As RAMTech-RC said well maybe not that short but a few hours and I have had enough of it. If you have the time and energy then hike down but if you stay on top then about a day and that will do you. I could go on forever with cool things to see in Northern AZ but If you want any other info PM me or email me at [email protected]

A jeep ride in Sedona is really cool. Thats were you find the good herbal medicine and the goofy wierdos. Great for a day trip though.

the jeeps can be fun but not for me. I wont get into it but some times the do some bad for the rocks look at the sub rock trail from 300 feet up and you will see it looks like a road blue groove. I am all for fun but some times it can go to far. I know a bunch of trails that are more fun and have less people and jeeps love it! If you rent a car just drive schnebly(sp?) hill from sedona to flag it's not too bad but best to have a suv of some sorts. I have done it in a grand am but have to go slooooow and keep an eye on the rocks.

this is one of the rocks that you can see the blue groove from.
