Need Help With Servo Saver

RC Driving Style
Kimbrough Servo Saver: I keep stripping out the inside of the insert (the part that slips over the actual servo spline). I'm running a high torque metal geared servo. I don't want to go with the Proline kit ($50). Any racer's tips or suggestions out there to avoid any more stripping out?
 
This may be a lame question but are you sure you are using the correct spline for your servo make? Also be sure that the screw holding it on get tight and stays tight. If the splines match tightly and the screw is tight, I can't see how it would strip out. I've never had one do that.
 
Concur with Larry's assessment. The Kimbrough servo savers usually come with a couple of splines. Are you certain you used the right one? I run high torque servos with the Kimbrough servo saver on my MTs and have yet to have that happen.
 
Positive. The kit comes with 3 splines. After the first was stripped, I thought that I may have put the wrong one on, so I threw a different one in there just to make sure If I was using the right one or not. The 2nd wasn't quite as good as a fit, but it worked for about 1 tank, then stripped again. The 3rd wasn't even a close fit, so I never even tried that one. The servo screw was on there tight. So nobody has had this happen to them...hmmmmmm, well dang.
I went out and got another Kimbrough saver, what I'm going to try is some Loc-Tight to fill it in 100% and see how that works.
 
Before you do that, what kind of servo is this going on?

Kimbrough has two heavy duty servo saver kits out. One kit comes with splines for Futaba, Hitec, and Airtronic servos. The other brands that do not have those style output gears (where the spline goes) use a different flavor.

Just checking all the bases.

If you look at the little plastic stick that the splines come attached to, there are tabs across from the spline. Each tab is labeled with a letter for the brand of servo it fits (A = Airtronics, H = HiTec, and F = Futaba). Just more info for you.
 
The servo is a Hobbico, which is made by Hitec, so I figured it would be the same gear...maybe not, which might be the problem. But the fitting fits PERFECT, tight fit no play, like it WAS made for it. This is such a silly thing...it's a friggin servo saver!!
 
And two people saying that it hasn't happened to them does not equal nobody. You may have a valid problem, and we are interested in finding a solution. We just want to rule out a part mismatch before we get creative.

Hobbico servos? Interesting. Do you have a part number that I can use for reference when I go digging for info? Thanks.

I dug up a Hobbico CS-65 Hi Torque servo. I'm guessing this is the one you are using. Nice stats.

I did not know that HiTec made the Hobbico servos. This is a new one to me. If what you say is accurate, then there should be no reason for the servo saver spline labeled "H" to not work.

This problem becomes very interesting, because I am running the servo saver on a HiTec Digital servo that has almost twice the torque that yours does. Never stripped a spline. This leaves me with Larry's thought on the screw being all the way tight. That is about the only thing I can think of.

Thinking out of the box, is the servo saver you bought labeled as a Large or Medium servo saver? Perhaps you bought one that is under strength for the servo you are running. That might allow for the stripping of the spline. Just a thought.

The mystery thickens...

I run the digital HiTec servo HS-5645MG on a 6volt set-up with that very servo saver. This produces a 168.03oz-in of torque. I run this servo for steering duty in my T-Maxx, Savage, and new buggy. I use the Kimbrough servo saver that you listed on both the Savage and T-Maxx and have never had this happen.

I am now at a loss. Unless the Hobbico output gear is not quite exactly a fit for the HiTec spline, the servo shouldn't be stripping it. Since you have already ruled out the loose screw, I am going to have to defer to someone who has had this happen to provide a solution.

Sorry. Hope someone presents a solution for you.
 
Haha, thanks anyway. Guess we're both at a loss lol. I'll get it working...I'm the King of Rig.
