Hey computer guys, I just got an old classic Transport Tycoon Deluxe but now its for windows. Ihave it all installed and when I go to run it I get an error message saying Error Reading Directory I don't know what to do. Any suggestions on fixing this? Or am I SOL?

i dont understand what you mean "but now its for windows"

do you mean its for windows 95/98 and you have like a win xp ..or are you running linix or something?

if its a win 95 / 98 game & you have win xp go to the directory you installed it normaly program files find the exe /game launch file right click on it go to properties click the compatibility tab then check run in compatibility mode & use the check box to select

lmk

It used to be a dos program. I'm not much of a computer guy, so is the directory something like c:\programfiles\..... is that right? I 'm not sure if its made for 95 or 98 but your saying that its transferable? I used to love this game so I'd be stoked if I could get it to work!!!

correct id be ...c:\programfiles\*.*?

you can go to my computer click on c: ... click on program files then look for the game manufactorer name

** or if you can't find it just reinstall the game to like c:\newgame or something easy to remember where its at**

click on it you should see a lot of files the one you need will probily be picture from the game your looking for an .exe file might be the name of the game or something like loader or something like that ...right click on it chose properties click the compatibility tab should be easy from there

Here is probably what the problem is.

The Winblows directory is

C:\Program Files

Note the space! Spaces are not supported in DOS. If the proggie is a Windblows version, it should "fix" this, but it may not. So you have two choices: if you can edit the game configuration file, you need to change it to

C:\progra~1\the_directory ("the_directory" being the one it can't find)

"progra~1" is how DOS resolves long file/folder names - 6 characters, ~1, ~2, etc.

OR

Re-install the program and specify a folder on the ROOT of the HD that has no spaces and does not exceed 8 characters.

C:\mygame

dunt tri tu corect mi spling ...mr 148 psots in to years :)

so vbgagnon did you get the game working?
